Mdma stopped working?

So my friend used to take mdma for a while, but came off it for a good few months. Now she has tried it again and is getting nowhere near the satisfaction (if any) she used to get. She has tried 3 different peoples now and none of them seem to work. She is on 100mg of sertraline but last took it a few days ago as she knows it has a half life of 23-26 hours and can effect the mdma high.
Beforehand she was on ethylphenidate for about a week, but that was over a few weeks ago now.
She has also taken 5htp to try see if it was just her low serotonin levels. But not much change.

Can anyone help with explaining other possible causes of mdma not working?
It was her favourite and would never take coke or anything, so this is confusing and not very nice for her right now.

Thank you for any help

SSRIs, like Sertraline, can completely kill a roll. If she's been taking it for awhile a few days will not be enough to completely remove the drug from her system. It would take 1-2, most likely 2, weeks for it to be all gone. I'm not entirely sure about the interactions between NDRIs (ethylphenidate) and MDMA though.

Also, are you 100% certain what you have is MDMA? Word of mouth is not even close to reliable. The only way to know is to test your gear with a test kit.

Make sure that whatever your friend (or probably you) is taking is MDMA (buy a test kit). If it is, then it's probably the SSRI's as they practically completely block the serotonin release from MDMA, so you're left with a shitty stimulated high not far from caffeine or low dose amp.

it's ths SSRI that is blocking her roll. waiting for it to leave her system isn't enough, her body needs to produce new, uninhibited SERT proteins and that typically takes anywhere between two weeks to a month.

A sertraline dose that high will significantly impact the serotonin transporter function. Even though the drug itself has a low half-life, it takes around two weeks for the serotonin transporters to begin to function normally again, sometimes longer. Also the less-active (but still active) metabolite of sertraline is norsertraline which has a half-life of over 60 hours which is even longer than citalopram. It took exactly 9 days for me to feel the withdrawal after I was taken off of citalopram cold turkey and I went in to full-blown discontinuation syndrome on the 10th day. I didn't try rolling in the interim but I highly doubt it would have worked.

Also with a dose that high, you should never stop taking it cold turkey. Discontinuation syndrome from sertraline and other SSRIs is not fun.

As Wills said, it is likely the SSRI if you have known good MDMA, sorry.

EDIT: badrobot beat me to it.

Surprisingly she found ethylphenidate completely killed the md she was getting the great high off before, yet that same md was not affected atall by the sertraline. Could she still have some ethylphenidate in her system after about a month?

Also does eating/sleep or simply a blocked nose effect the high?

If you roll as much as I do yep its going to leave but you'll still roll, just more of a fucked up feeling than magical, still amazing!

-Have her stop taking ALL medications for at least a few days, as well as anything with stimulant properties.

This is horrible advice!

NEVER stop taking a medication suddenly! It can be dangerous!

If you're on a prescription medication, chances are that you and your doctor have decided that it is beneficial for you to be on it. Don't stop taking things like SSRIs without a slow and deliberate taper after speaking to your doctor and mutually agreeing that it would be okay to discontinue the drug.

Eating and sleep definitely effect your high. Always make sure you're well-rested and eat a light meal at least 1 1/2 hours before dropping. You want to make sure to keep your energy up but if you have a full stomach, I've wasted MDMA and ruined my night before.
