I'm posting this here because I thought it would get less attention and maybe a more qualified answer.
OK, does excess MDMA convert into MDA in the brain if you take a massive dose?
I heard several people mention this and was wondering if that would explain why I didn't get a decent empathic high of a triangle mitsi. Thanks for your help,
J

ok i'm sure drugdustbin will have a bit to say on this but i thought i'd rip this quote out of his tome on MDMA and put it here:
Biodisposition & Pharmacokinetics
MDMA absorption is usually complete within 1-2 hours. It has a half-life of about 5-9 hours, depending on dosage. The metabolism of MDMA involves N-demethylation to 3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA) and
O-demethylenation to 3,4-dihydroxymethamphetamine (DHMA) and to 3,4-dihydroxy-amphetamine (DHA).
O-demethylenation in humans is catalyzed by cytochrome P450 isoenzyme, CYP2D6, also known as debrisoquine-4-hydroxylase. This enzyme is expressed polymorphically in humans and about 5-9% of the Caucasian population is deficient for this enzyme acitivity (poor metabolizer, PM). DHMA and DHA are further O-methylated by catechol-O- methyltransferase, COMT to 4-hydroxy-3-methoxymethamphetamine (HMMA) and
4-hydroxy-3-methoxyamphetamine (HMA). O-dealkylated metabolites are also O-conjugated to glucuronides and sulfates. MDA, formed by N-demethylation of MDMA, seems to be a minor metabolite, representing 8 to
9% of the blood concentrations of MDMA. The main metabolites found in urea as free and/or conjugated are HMMA, HMA and MDA. MDA recovery is about 1% of the dose administered. The disposition of MDMA in
humans is stereoselective, with the more active S-enantiomer having a reduced AUC (area under curve) and shorter half-life than (R)-MDMA.

i think this means that MDMA is always metabolised to MDA but at such low levels it doesnt feel the same as if you took MDA in the first place...
i'm sure mr bin will correct my shoddy interpretation...

Safrol is supposed to convert to MDA via the liver. But this is not recommended to drink as it causes cancer.

Actually there is some evidence that allyl- and/or propenylbenzenes, like (iso)safrole, are NOT converted to corresponding amphetamines in human body.

Has anyone ever tried making MDMA from any other essential amphetamine than safrole?
