MDMA and donating blood

you can still donate blood, unless you're homosexual, in which case you can't (for the red cross at least).

I went to give blood in college a few years ago and told the doctor I smoked weed the day before, she said it was no problem?? I still don't know why she gave me the green light... Or do they really analyze the blood for all kinds of drugs and then decide if it's to be used or not?

^No.
These are the usual tests
Antibody to Hepatitis B core "anti-HBc"
Hepatitis B Surface Antigen "HBsAg"
Nucleic acid testing by Transcription Mediated Amplification (TMA) or Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for Hepatitis B "HBV-NAT"
Antibody to Hepatitis C "anti-HCV"
Nucleic acid testing for HCV "HCV-NAT"
Alanine transaminase "ALT" (this test is used to check for liver problems which may be a sign of hepatitis and has been phased out as tests for hepatitis have improved)
Antibody to HIV types 1 and 2 "Anti-HIV1/2"
Nucleic acid for HIV "HIV-NAT"
Antibody to HIV p24 antigen (this test has been mostly replaced by HIV NAT)
Antibody to Human T-Lymphotrophic Virus I/II "anti-HTLV"
Nucleic acid testing for West Nile Virus "WNV-NAT"
Antibody to Chagas Disease
Serologic test for syphilis "RPR" or "STS"
Antibody to Cytomegalovirus "anti-CMV"
Atypical red cell antigen screening
Blood typing
I suppose they could test for drugs, but as I said, testing isn't cheap and they store the blood for a while anyway so the drugs will've most likely dissapated by the time someone gets the blood. :\

I thought that too at first... Enzymes degrade drugs but they probably will have broken it down already to the point where it's most excretable. And if they didn't yet, they'll cease working once they cool down below body temperature, anyway.

So I'm still boggled: wtf! If someone in critical state gets this blood, who knows what might happen. Maybe they'll only give it to stoners so they don't withdrawal too much.

^You're correct.
The FDA has also banned blood from recent immigrats from "certain nations with high rates of HIV infection." :\
IV drug user's aren't allowed to donate either, for obvious reasons.
If you're found to be one of these people(IV user, homosexual, recent immigrant from certain country) you're banned from donating blood in the US for life. :|

Policies are different in other countries though.

IIRC, where I live, if you had gay and/or unprotected sex, snorted or IV'd drugs in the last 6 months you can't donate. It's because you can't immediately screen for HIV. The snorted thing I don't know, a friend of me told the doctor he snorted coke a few weeks ago, and he could donate.
People I know have been turned down because they went to the dentist though :)
