So i have a pretty close friend to my family who has some SERIOUS deep seeded issues. Something huge has happened to her in the past and it clearly affects her daily quality of life. She cant fight with the problems in her head. Im thinking mdma could be a good tool to get through it.

In her childhood there was a history drug abuse from her mother. Due to this, she is VERY wary of drug use. Shes showing symptoms of PTSD.

She has panics attacks more than once a week, is constantly paranoid and worrying about something.

Im looking for some articles or personal stories to help sell the idea of an mdma therapy session to her, as i think it would help IMMENSLEY with her issues in a single session. Im scared for her future if she doesnt get through this mental block from her past.

Hello epic thought provoking thread for sure. However, please be very careful with this thought. It may well be a cure but it may also be a poison.

The only personal contribution I can make to you is I suffered from a long term comedown and thought that maybe if I tried some MDMA a month later it might be okay.

This couldnt have been further from the truth. The MDMA made the panic and anxiety 100x worse.

I realise your friends situation is very very different but all I am saying is exercise caution if wishing to experiment in this way.

The problem you have with MDMA is in order for a health care professional to engage in this therapy would rely on illegal practice.

For this reason you are stuck with an ilegal source and an illegal therapy session.

It might work, it might do nothing, it might push her into a worse condition.

Exercise very careful risk analysis before making this decision.

There is some evidence to suggest your claim may be true.

Check out that show on channel four airing soon. Professor Nutt is discussing this very topic and in my opinion will provide a valid discussion and opinion.

Hope this helps in some way. I wish you the very best for your friend.

Well there's your problem... some people have actually turned their MDMA abuse related depression around from rolling again. The key part in that is to let your self have MORE THAN PLENTY of recovery time... like 8 months. I know one of our most deeply effected members (Somedud) tried this and was able to lessen some of his anxiety and depression.

For therapy though, MDMA is great. It can make you at inner peace with yourself, and you can deal with a lot of problems that you would usually run from in that state.... Futura is right though, it can make things worse, especially with impure product... and I doubt you're going to know how to deal with her emotional problems yourself, as I doubt your a licensed therapist. You could open a can of worms you just don't know how to deal with.... and that could traumatize her..... so it might just be better to not risk it...

I have had two long term comedowns. I firmly beleive that my first comedown was cured by ironically taking some MDMA 6 months later in a nice setting with some friends.

In a way that was a bad thing because I tried that trick this time and it failed miserabley.

A pattern definitely emerges here. It can work and it can also fail badly causing the opposite to therapy..

I would second Folley on this epic and say your risks might be a bit too high.

I have read articles on mdma usage for therapeutic purposes.I cba search for links right but the bottomline is:

The patient (aka the one taking mdma) does all the work himself..which is awesome.Aka there's no discussion with the doctor/watcher during the session except for a "are you doing ok?" every hour or so.After and before the session, the patient does discuss the experience with the doctor, although i believe the doctor's role is mostly reassuring/explaining how mdma works etc

Basically the patient lies down on a bed/couch with something covering his eyes (so as to not care about the visuals), and just thinks whatever he has to think. Evocational music has to be playing which has to be without lyrics...classical music or trance should work. Someone watching over him provides him with water or whatever else he might need.

2 similar self-executed mdma sessions helped me with social anxiety.Didnt have panic attacks or anything though. I keep telling my shy/super-avoidant friends (or another guy that is afraid of swimming due a bad experience when he was a kiddo) to try mdma with a similar mindset but they wont listen because "drugs are bad"

I think mdma has the potential to be very therapeutic.
But I share the concerns of Futura2012
Any therapy should be conducted by somebody qualified to do so in a suitably controlled and safe environment.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. And thanks panos for a more detailed way to administer it if it does come to it.

MDMA has been studied for possible use as a PTSD treatment. However, if your friend's issues are related to her mother's drug abuse, I'm skeptical that MDMA is her best way forward. I wouldn't reccomend taking it to anyone who isn't completely comfortable with the idea.

Has your friend ever tried more traditional therapy or medication? The last point is critical- if she's taking prescription drugs for mental illness then adding MDMA could be a very bad idea.

as someone who's going through something similar and under the care of a doctor, if she is experiencing panic attacks on a weekly basis, she should not be given ANY stimulants until that subsides for at least a 6 weeks - caffeine included. She should concentrate on getting her anxiety in a more manageable state, with diet, exercise, and traditional therapy right now. When she stabilizes, and if she is open to it, it could be very helpful to her to break out. I would tread extremely cautiously though, as a misstep here could trigger a serious problem.
