ok so i have seen some brown sandy/shardy mdxx that almost looks like brown sand however it is not sticky at all. I was under the assumption that sass for the most part is just MDMA that has not been through the last few stages of the wash and is full of impurities and that's why it's still brown and has that root beer smell. However many people claim that all sass is MDA how can this be the case considering the best MDA i have ever had has been clear/white crystal. can you really tell the two apart based on smell or color without a test kit i don't think so?
 
Well, from safrole oil (sassafrass), the route to get to MDMA involves a step that created MDA first. This MDA is HORRIBLY impure though, and is supposed to go through another reaction to make it MDMA, then cleaned and washed of impurities.


Some chemists just leave the MDA in a brown goop and just sell it like that... it's likely full of very toxic byproducts, but they don't care.





Sassafrass is a tree though, not a type of drug.

a chemist who knows what he's doing most likely wouldn't use a sythesis involving mda as an intermediate. it would add an unneccessary extra step to the synthesis. reductive amination straight to mdma is much simpler. here you'd just swap the ammonia you'd use for mda with methylamine for mdma.
 
^ indeed. while parts of certain mdma synths and mda synths are similar (if not the same) i don't know any (practical) route to mdma from safrole that goes through mda...

shulgin's synth in pihkal started from MDA but nothing have seen on the net makes MDA first before MDMA.

MDA come in just as many colors and purity levels as MDMA. they only way to know what one you have is a test kit. I forget what reagent tests for primary amines only in the EZ test complete kit but it is possible to test for MDA specifically with the complete kit.
