May be getting locked up, been there?

I have medicare so I can see a private doc, but have been warned by the VA that going against their protocol is a bad idea. I run the chance to lose my benefits if I piss off the wrong people. I have pushed the envelope a few times and I know its not a good idea. If I lost my pension and medical benefits, no matter how shitty they are Id really be fucked. I cant work like I used to. Only good for a couple hours max a day on my feet and that is pushing it.

I understand your concern, the funny thing is the VA gave me an appointment with a civilian DR as the wait to see a DR in the pain management clinic was around 6-8 months. The civilian DR said That it was her professional opinion that I was a patient who should be considered a chronic opiate pain management patient. The VA is a strange animal.

I have heard that if you rattle the cage well enough without blowing a fuse, it is possible to have a private doc. as your primary. This is not a well known thing and ive heard since the economy tanked, it is pretty much impossible. My private doc is a nam vet and suffered injuries similar to mine. I can at least associate with him and he well knows what Im going through. My intentions are to get him as my primary as he is already in their system as an approved doc to see va patients for varying circumstances. He was the doc who got me my 100% rating. I asked him when I saw him for my c&p if he would see me as a regular patient and he was happy to even though his patient load was full.

At least that sounds a little bit promising bob. I was in town the other day getting my methadone from the chemist (here we have a separate area where us "horrible junkies " can wait for the pharmacist to see us) and a guy came in for needle exchange. When he'd got his needle's and citric, water, spoon- he proceeded to cook up a hit right in front of me (illegal in a public place) . Obviously I wasn't gonna stop him, I too know that desperate need, but it was the first time in nearly 5yrs that I'd seen anyone do this and I'm suprised by how I felt seeing it (Heroin) again. I thought I'd be begging him to take me to score, but I just watched calmly and criticised the quality of the Heroin (it looked really light in the needle, usually not a good sign of high quality H.) . I can't begin to describe the feeling of not wanting it gave me. I thought for sure that the first time I saw someone do that, I'd be back on it.
I felt I had to tell you that. You've shared a lot of personal stuff with us, so I don't mind sharing experience's too.

I hope me telling you this sort of stuff doesn't make you want to not message me. I would be hurt by that. Though if it does bother you, I'll not message you anymore.
I only want a place to feel accepted, no matter what I say. Though I'll bore you no ill will if you decide to not reply anymore.

Take care lad. Hope to hear back from you.
From G.

No worries gmac...Im probably one of the least judgmental people you would meet. I have experienced too much in my life to even consider myself even vaguely righteous. Funny how experience helps with humility if taken the right way. Wisdom gained is often painful to acquire!

So true mate. Just started playing "Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare" on ps3. I know it's only a game mate, but can't help thinking of you, the character is a Marine.

Thats great you found a good Dr, hopefully the VA will let you see him. The only way I was able to see a civilian Dr was they were so overbooked. I then went to a pain specialist at a major hospital as I was tired of waiting for the VA. They also don't prescribe pain meds with my prescribed Klonopin. If you don't mind me asking if you get 100% for PTSD or a 100% P&T what will you have as your insurance. I did 9 years not a retiree, so was wondering what would the insurance be is it Medicare or tricare? I am currently at 80%. I hope all works out well for you brother.

hmmm...no insurance really. I just have complete coverage by the va for any circumstance...well that and now the choice program for what that's worth. they have proven unreliable as well. I have medicare because I qualified for ss disability. I used medicare for my shoulder as it was prett5y bad and the va was dragging their feet as per usual. I will end up having to cover copay out of my own pocket if I cant get the va to cover it.

got chopped up pretty good. shoulder surgery is quite painful. I have been back up to 160mg sr for now. im thinking after the initial surgery site pain wears off I will have to do a quick taper, really going to try to get a private doc to prescribe subs. time is dwindling.

Thasts bullshit the VA always drags there feet. Sorry to hear that.

I can totally relate to what you're about to go through. I was on 360 mg of OxyContin many moons ago and had to report to a Federal prison for a relatively short stay (18 months). For some crazy ass reason (naive) I actually thought I'd be able to bring in my bottle of meds and they would dole them out to me as prescribed. HaHaHa!! Nope, upon my check-in appt., my doc picked up the bottle and read what it was. He said, "there's no way you're going to get this in here". He then proceeded to put the bottle in his jacket pocket! It probably had close to 100 80 mg pills in it.

So, they started me off with 10 mg of oxycodone 3x a day (the whole pill line and all, typically Federal facility stuff) and reduced it to zip in 3-4 months. Anyway, going from 360 mg to 30 mg daily and you can imagine the hell I went through. It was the closest thing to death I've ever experienced to this day! You would think the fact that it wasn't "cold turkey" per se, it wouldn't be too bad. NOPE, might have well have been. The reduction in mgs was just to high to make any difference!

One thing they said to back up their refusal to give me the OxyContin was that they told me I'd turn into the biggest target in the entire facility (if it ever got out). BTW, things like this always "get out there", for whatever reason. It could have been very hazardous to my life. Anyway, like others have posted about trying to go through the proper channels to get the meds to you inside. I tried this for months on end and it didn't matter what case I quoted or how well my argument was posed, it was shot down as quick as I could write it. Please don't get your hopes up on that end.

Anyway, I do wish you all the best on what you're about to go through and please feel free to PM me if you have any questions. God Bless!

Beachbum ever figure out what happened to that bottle of meds? They should've returned it upon your release. I'm sure it would be worth following up on it as you made it sound like the doctor pocketed it rather than properly dispose of it.

Alright bob. I been feeling really shit the past week or so, sleeping a lot, so am sorry i havnt checked in with you. I also thought you might be in hospital longer.I got a bit bored of cod because it was that Advanced Warfare edition and was set in the future, so they had like , rocket pack's and shit. A bit too far fetched for me, so am back to GTA5.
So, it seems to have gone ok, you're surgery ?! Let me know mate.
Later's.

looks like we kinda petered out here... im still kicking. got letter from lawyer. pretrial is the 15th trial date is 25th so looks like I have a bit longer than initially thought before trial.

funny how when you start talking about va stuff peoples eyes glaze over and lose interest quickly, lol

Yeah, I guess all has been said about what's available for trying to come off Oxy. As I've said bob, I don't know anything about Oxy , so can't really contribute to that topic much, you're maybe on the right track with suboxone, tho , I don't know enough to really say what would work. I think everyone on here has tried to give their opinion, a lot of it seemed very insightful, so you should have a bit of an idea. I'd like to keep in touch with you, if you are ok with that ? What options is there for me to keep in touch with you ? I guess you could pm me on here and I can pm you. Did you get the replies I sent pm ?

I don't know if you are still on here WasteLand Warrior , but I'd like to chat with you, I'm guessing we'll have had some of the same experiences, as I've been on Heroin for years also, though am clean now, but, shiit, I miss it REAL BAD. I've been clean of Heroin (where am from, UK, we call it gear, so if I refer to it as that, you'll know what I mean) for nearly 5yrs tho am on 65ml of methadone still. I'm finding it a battle to not use anymore and thought we could just talk about shit, I used to do Crack too, IV and smoke. Anyway, if you wanna chat, fire me a reply or pm. If not, then it's not a problem.
Later's.
PS. I didn't mention that I'm male. I say this cos sometimes female's will only reply to female's and I didn't wanna not say. You'll see it on my profile anyway.
Later.

In my state, unless you have to be taken to a hospital, you will not receive anything stronger than ibuprofen. The only possibility would be if you were on a medical unit. Look into how they care for people with serious medical issuses( which it sounds like you have). Also, if you were at a medical unit there would be a lot less opportunities to get in trouble (I.e fighting) at a place like that since everyone is messed up. But I wouldn't really worry about that as a 6'4 300+ lb ex Marine. I was like 125 soaking wet at 5'8 when I went in. Came out 3 1/2 years later about 170 and no worse for the wear besides some fighting. And this was in a state with 100+ anywhere from 500-5000 men housed. I even had to be housed with people who had murder charges and I only had 6 years. Nothing compared to their sentences. Good luck and thank you for your service.

Edit: yeah if ol' boy up there ^^ beach bum couldn't get it in federal prison, which offers the most amenities by far compared to the majority of state facility's, your chances are pretty much nil. Can't hurt to try though I guess.

been there done that, except on Canadian side (not counting my Mexican experience) taper ASAP, get all your scripts and doctors notes in order, they will not give you your narcotics. In Canada they will only give you meth if you were on this before going to prison. Taper as much and as soon as you can and bring in with you to continue the taper. I shouldn't have to tell you how to bring it in. whatever your DOC, break it down, streamline it for efficiency for entry and continue the slow taper while in jail this way. Also, let it be known what is going on with you on entry and any doctor notes to back this up. The best thing you can have happen at this point is you will be put in the jail medical ward during this withdrawal period and they may help with small doses of benzo type shit for the anxiety shakes, sweats restlessness etc....If anyone thinks withdrawal is tough outside of incarceration, try this whild incarcerated, it is pure hell and you have no help at while incarcerated. Taper now, cheers my friend and good luck with this......

A couple years ago I got 30 days for punching out a cop. I was only on clinzepan then and figured with my ptsd I'd get it. They cut me off completely from 3mg to zero. Even though a military doc prescribed them. I had a few small seizures and even my cell mate stayed up all night to watch me. They didn't let me see a doc until the day before I left. That jail is now being sued for things like that. And putting a 18 year old in a cell with a psycho that was heading to the pen. The kid got beat to death and the guards took 11 hours to check in on him. In Afghanistan we treated tail prisoners better. The guards kept telling me to stfu or they would tell the range I was federal. Total d-bags

Sweetyjane77 prison's over there sound absolutely horrendous. I count my lucky stars am English and ain't never EVEN gonna be allowed in US or Canada. I'm sure I'd have been dead by now one way or another if I'd lived in US. I've seen TV programmes about American prison's/jail's and they truly worrie me. Our (UK) prison's arnt gr8 but, shiit, they're like a holiday camp compared to US one's. I had a single cell, TV and PS2 the last time I was inside. I didn't wanna get out !!! It's changed a bit since then, we don't automatically get TV's now, but that isn't too much of a problem, I used to read a lot anyway.
Anyway, I've waffle'd on enough for now.
Hope you are in a bit better place than when you was in prison ,emotionally I mean.
Later's.
