Mass Shootings and Gun Debate 2018 Thread

@SheWasLvl18: it's one of the later ones that opened up a loophole for the government to take advantage of the people and today we have a huge debt, trump or hillary as a choice and people accusing so many of sexual assault and the list goes on. (let's not forget OT with people using guns like they're playing grand theft auto)

that constitution was something else back in it's day.

I'm in no way anti-handgun but rifles are:
1. less used in murder
2. better for home defense
3. better for any civil war situation

Handguns are better for self-defense on the street in a bad neighborhood or as a public figure.

i believe you've mentioned this multiple times before.

you and cduggles seem to have a clear understanding on the topic of gun violence.

most of the mass shootings have been carried out with rifles. these handguns are a real problem when it comes to person on person street violence (and not just the gangsters).

plus it's way easier to palm a hand gun and sneak out of a store or house than a rifle is.

i vote we replace the sales of firearms with nerf toys. pretty hard to take out hundreds of people with foam projectiles. kinda the same theory as rubber or wooden guns for cops that aren't allowed to carry real ones until they learn it's a weapon, not a toy.
 
As if most of weren't already aware that this country has gone off it's rocker, there was another mass shooting, this time at a Pittsburgh synagogue. I don't know the numbers the media is reporting, but I had a grad school classmate from Pittsburgh who went to that synagogue and the numbers he just gave me are 11 dead, 24 critically injured.

The man behind a horrific shooting inside a Pittsburgh synagogue Saturday has been identified as 46-year-old Robert Bowers, a law enforcement official told USA TODAY. Bowers reportedly had multiple firearms, including a high-powered rifle, according to CNN and CBS News. He is the only suspect so far in the investigation.

CBS News reported Bowers burst into the Tree of Life synagogue and started firing at random while shouting, "All Jews must die." The network reported Bowers barricaded himself during the rampage. Law enforcement officials said Bower was taken to the hospital after the attack. Multiple people were reported dead and six others injured, including four police officers, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety Department.

Social media accounts that appear to belong to Bowers include an array of anti-semitic comments and conspiracy theories. Just before the shooting, Bowers reportedly wrote on the social media website Gab, "I can't sit by an watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics. I'm going in." In the post, he mentioned HIAS, which is the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, saying the organization liked to bring "invaders in that kill our people." It's unclear who he meant when saying "our people." On Bowers' page, he wrote about a number of conspiracy theories and his thoughts on President Donald Trump, who he said he did not vote for.

Gab, in a statement, said it was "saddened and disgusted" by the attack but defended its ability to protect free speech. The site backed up the shooter's profile then suspended the account. "Gab?s mission is very simple: to defend free expression and individual liberty online for all people. Social media often brings out the best and the worst of humanity," the statement said. "Criminals and criminal behavior exist on every social media platform."

The FBI is treating the incident as a hate crime and leading the investigation, Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich said. "It?s a very horrific crime scene," Hissrich said. "It's one of the worst I?ve seen." Victims have not been named, but Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro said the shooting occurred at the synagogue during a baby-naming ceremony.

what i got a problem with is people not doing anything about it. let's go ahead and ban this, blame this.... meh! same ol same ol.

broken record time. you see someone shooting a public place, shoot them (or talk to them).

you hear someone talking about it then you call them out on it or report their sorry butts. (CH, see, see. got the "i" in there this time)

your kid has access to your guns then it's your fault and you should go to jail too. it's a gun, not a vcr, they're not smart enough to outwit locks just yet. (use the "y're" version this time cap'n)

there is no rule that will be put in place that stops these from happening and that's why they are happening. plug the whole to stop the leak before you can fix it right or keep slapping a band aid over a cracked pipe and see where that gets you. (got the official trifecta closed up with the "ere" one here. where's my dobbie snack mister??)
 
From the way it was reported, I'm guessing the guy was probably a meth head trying to rob the cash registers for all the $$$ to $$$$ it had in them. I deducted this because as I heard, "he threw smoke grenades everywhere and started shooting behind the bar" = sounds like he wanted to scare away the bartenders to go steal the $$$, the smoke to elude cameras so he could effectively not go to prison. The only other reason a psycho would shoot behind the bar is he's an incel and he tried asking the bartender out and she said no? Seems a lot less likely.

All of the valley is laden with methamphetamine; from Thousand Oaks all the way to Burbank, from Canoga Park all the way down the 101. It's everywhere. I'm almost sure this was a meth head who wanted a few easy hundreds or a thousand or two dollars for a fix. :\

However, who knows? Maybe it'll be a total psycho like Caesar Sayoc and the dude's driving around with a bunch of headless Ken and Barbie dolls. 8(
 
CNN byline on the story says a "witness" is "surprised" because it's a "really safe area"...

nope

the whole valley is gun, gang, and meth laden. I have no idea where CNN gets off lying like this. Anyone from southern California with street smarts could tell you this.

I feel safer in skid row than I do the valley, especially if you don't have $$$$, a car, etc.
