Marijuana Withdrawal Dreams - Experienced - Nightmares on Palm Street

^Care to cite anything supporting that?
We know that cannabis intake produces down-regulation (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9776133) , as long term use of most any psychotropic drug does. You get tolerance don't you? Maybe withdrawal is a loaded word but your body does most definitely have to regain an equilibrium after discontinued long term use. Whether or not the user notices this is dependent on the user, but its certainly not "placebo", real biological factors are at play.

I have had the same thing after not having a chop in a week or so my dreams have shifted to the wierdest shit. Some almost nightmares others just obsure.

Your not alone, I haven't had a smoke in 5 days now and the first 3 nights my dreams were weird and i actually had a nightmare which is the first time in over 5-10 years. I have been a daily smoker for 12 years and now trying to quit my dreams have somewhat returned to normal, nice report either way!

Datura-Like Dreams on Demand

It was fucking frightening. I awoke eventually, and i was speechless except for the word "Fuck..." for about half a minute.

I went into this experiment with a positive attitude and looked forward to dreaming every night. It was almost like a psychedelic trip every time I slept, literally anything could happen.

...

My recommendation for those who stop smoking is to mentally prepare yourself for these dreams and look at them in a positive light. Obviously, some dreams can be terrifying, but more times than not I had some pretty crazy dreams that I really enjoyed. It can actually be a fun part of your quitting process, and I would even go as far as to say you should write down your dreams so you can read the absurdity later.

Hear here.

I am so glad that someone posted a "Trip Report" on the Psychedelic Effects that ensue with the cessation of long-term cannabinoid receptor agonism. It's hilarious. I completely feel ya brothers/sisters!!

The phenomena is so amazing; I am very impressed with adrandell's planned experiment and expothead's unplanned one.

I have been through this many times, as an individual who initially started regular cannabis at ~11 y.o. and continued largely unabated for ~3 decades, believe me when I tell ya' that adrandell nailed it on the head with that description.

I no longer use cannabis, haven't for about a year, and only very rarely use JWH or other CB1/2 agonists, but the contextualization of cannabinoid receptor agonist withdrawal as a "Trip" couldn't be truer! LoL. It is kinda fun, in a Datura sorta way.

Every night for a week or so the dreams are simply amazing. Like +++ amazing. I would experience them during forced or voluntary periods of cessation, and once I knew what to expect, I would treat them just like a Trip that I knew was coming.

The "lolly/jaw" dream was a great example of what to expect. Ha. Not fun if you don't know what's coming, but you get some experience under your belt, and you start to consider them "Freebie Trips".

Anyhoo. I just had to pop in and crow about the lovely, dark and oh so realistic bombastic barrage of dreams that ensue once a long-time head decides or is forced to go without their cannabinoid receptor agonists.

Highly recommended!! I suggest more folks try adrandell's experiment, but of course you first would have to build up years of tolerance and dependency before you can enjoy the Datura Dreams that come from stopping the 'Noids!

Thats it man. To the massive pothead needing to go through quick cessation with no cannabinoid substitutes :

It is firstly important to realize that can be psychologically daunting preparing onesself for this. But the fact that many of us have had to go through just the same thing for our various reasons can reassure you of these few quick facts..

Secondly after the inevitable several days of poor sleeping related difficulties have subsided you will gradually resume your natural circadian rhythms and with this your natural food cravings and general mood swings will be improve immensely once you start sleeping better..

Thirdly although there can be discomfort quitting suddenly after years of heavy smoking, it is more than likely that you will have built the process up into being a bigger deal than it will be for you.

Lastly you will still probably always think occasionally crave some and think that some particular occasion would perfactly suit some cannabis. And you may well be right, but until you have downregulated your cannaninoid receptors over a long enough period, back to normal levels this is unwise.

note: getting ontop of your exercise regime and general diet and establishing a routine can all help ease this process.

Love and support to you guys currently going through this .

My apologies, I should have specified. That is sorced from 'The Weed Street Journal' and not my own experiment. The first line was me and I must have forgot to put up a link to it!

Here it is: http://www.theweedstreetjournal.com/weird-dreams-after-you-quit-smoking-marijuana/

As I have said, there is many stories of this out there. I personally have smoked pot for about 12 years but summer time only. All I get is sleep deprivation for a bit after stopping. I just found this interesting so decided to interact in an attempt to find people who have experienced this on here... If any!

I was told that heavy smokers dont have the third stage(REM) of sleep as often. so my theory is when you quit you have an onslaught of dreams that are very vivid and real. Especially if its been years sense having a realistic dream. Also if you train your mind right, you could have some awesome lucid dreams

I would agree with that hypothesis.
Because I never used to dream, ever (or at least remember any). In the past routinely every night for years I would love nothing more than to smoke myself to sleep blissfully... Which was clearly resulting in high cannibinoid levels throughout during most of my sleeping hours. and subjectively during around this point during the daytime I was always napping and never felt well rest... But upon discontinuation of this nightly routine those vivid dreams you refer to were such a shock I will never forget certain spooky nightmares from that period.

That's precisely correct. I mentioned some of the dreams I've been having lately to a friend of mine and he sent me this:

To address this question, Feinberg, et al. (1975) compared the sleep patterns of experienced marijuana users on tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and a placebo. Feinberg, et al. (1975) reported reduced eye movement activity and less REM sleep in the THC condition. They also reported a REM rebound effect, that is more REM activity, on withdrawal from THC. So,there exists some scientific evidence that marijuana interferes with REM sleep.

I had a crazy dream around the same time I ceased use not too long ago. I had never even considered this a possibility as to why. Ive never heard of these vivid dreams from withdrawals until now, but Im most def a believer. Ive had to stop use off and on due to availability and a busy work schedule and in this time frame Ive had some pretty unusual dreams. In one dream, I had a bag of meth and a kid I used to go to school with (keep in mind this is all we had in common, that we went to school together, I havent seen him in years!) was at my house jus basically fiending for it so we did some and then I seen flashing lights of cop cars out the windows. Then I woke up, not very interesting by itself besides the fact that Ive only tried meth once maybe twice and that was years ago and that this dude is basically a stranger to me. But a few weeks later, I had yet another dream, a sequel to the first one. In this dream, someone is pounding on my front door pretty damn hard. When I get there and answer it a tall heavy set man enters my house and we converse on my porch. He introduces himself as Chubbs and tells me the reason he was at my house is because the kid from the earlier dream is now addicted to meth and doin a lot of bad shit and this chubbs character blames me for this. I explain to him that I did not force him to do the drugs and it was actually him that wanted to so bad in the first place. Chubbs wasnt hearing it however. I then found myself in my house looking out the windows to my porch and Chubbs now had my girlfriend with him and was attempting his own little rape session with her. Immediately I rushed to the porch ,sharp and sturdy knife in hand, and told him if he didnt leave this second I would kill him where he stood. Of course I woke up before I knew the answer to his ultimatum. I cant fairly attribute these dreams directly to cessation due to many many other factors in my life. I can, however place both of these dreams in a timeframe when I was not smoking for a week or so. I certainly believe withdrawal from cannabis is very real even if its not as bad as heroin or meth. It doesnt have to be the worst to exist. It also doesnt have to happen to everybody to exist. Ive got friends that can up and quit with no repurcussions and I have friends that cant go a single day without. It just affects different people in different ways.

I've been a daily smoker for the last 12 years and going cold turkey for 11 days now. I can tell you my dreams have become very very lucid and weird.

I've been going through MJ "withdrawls" lately as well I guess, here's my bizzare dream from last night;

I find myself standing behind a seedy toilet block in a housing project I know with three good mates. We are smoking joints and bongs when we see the police pull up, but quickly realize it's to attend to another incident. I try to subtly roll the bong (which is strangely shaped in a way suggesting it'll work) down the opposite side of the toilet block but instead it smashes into a million pieces, making a loud BANG, and turning everyones head, including the police. So I pretend I have no idea what the noise is and run around the side of the toilet block to "investigate."

All of a sudden i'm swamped with news crews and papparazi who force me into a chair and start spit firing questions at me. I try to get up but they all put their hands on my shoulders, forcing me down. It was so vivid I could actually feel the pressure on my body. In my peripheral dream vision I could see a man standing behind a bench with a microphone about to make what seemed to be a very important announcement, which I will now miss. I feel I need to get out of there. I turn to face a reporter to try and listen to what he is saying but he's babbling incoherently. So I laugh and say "I wish I could be as cool as you!..."

...Nd' then I woke up. 8)

But yeah, I always seem to forget one of the major components of stopping smoking (for me) is strange dreams...
