Marijuana For Extreme Pain

If you are unable to smoke weed due to polmonary fibrosis, is it possible to get relief with marijuana in any other form? Such as eating it maybe? It does come in a pill form but it is completely ineffective.

Probably a stupid question...would it become less potent, or even work at all if it was used to make a pot of tea? I thought eating it might work since it is in the most purest form. Does anyone know anything about using marijuana for pain relief? Kinda desperate.

This isn't really Advanced Drug Discussion material so it may get moved to another forum where you will get better answers or where it just makes more sense to be at.

You CAN orally ingest marijuana through many different ways. Just check out the cannabis forum on this website, they talk about cooking marijuana into different foods and how to orally ingest weed. The basic idea is to grind up the buds as fine as possible and then mix them into something with a high fat content (because THC and friends are fat soluble and will absorb best this way) such as butter or milk (most use butter). Once you have your cannabis laced butter, you can make brownies, cookies, etc.

Tea does not work well because the active ingredients in cannabis are not absorbed well in water so it is likely that a lot of THC would get wasted when making a crude tea.

Hope this helps, sorry to hear about your diagnosis

Okay...I know I should have posted there, for some reason I thought I'd get better answers here since it's advanced drug discussion, but I wasn't sure.

In case anyone is still willing to read this though, can eating the buds/plant alone help or would that make someone sick or hallucinate?

Thanks for answering.

it is not great for extreme pain, but it depends on the pain. i have ankylosing spondoliitis and marijuana helped greatly for years with severe inflammation through out my body, mostly the lower back, and it still does to an extent.

i use a TNF pain blocker Humira now to prevent bone fusion and because the pain became unlivable, but the pain still insists on breaking through so i also use medical marijuan., eating mmj is a lot more effective then smoking, and is what i prefer next to a vaporizer for when the inflammation is really out of control. marinol/dranibinol(sp) is shit, very very expensive shit, i am prescribed 5mg gelcaps, and i would have to eat like 5 of them it seems to be as effective as a 1/4g 'joint', also 25 +,- of hydrocodone wouldnt relieve or actually address the pain, that the said joint would/did; discovered through painfully bored trial and error.

mmj is especially helpful with fibrosis damage, and if you live in a state that allows the use of medical marijuana and see about getting your recommendation, and then you should have access to all sorts of edibles or oils.

or take others recommendations and find a do it yourself page, you shouldnt have to feel like an out law to gently and safely alleviate you pain... i feel ya, and as shitty as your luck may seem it can and will take a turn around eventually :) hold on.

I thought marijuana was not great for severe pain...

Works on neuropathic pain (well phantom limb pain - from experience), not so good on the sort of pain opioids work well for

As for medical forms, the preparation Savitex is available in the UK, which is mixed cannabinoids in a preparation desinged for sublingual admin. I must get myself referred to a pain clinic and get some prescribed sometime (my wife works with someone who lost his arm in a motorbike accident and he gets it prescribed - says it can get you well off your face if you overdo the dosage! :D)

sativex has variable bioavailability, supposedl that was the reason it failed phase III trials for pain last year. though they did prove that placebo is remarkably effective.

Tea does not work well because the active ingredients in cannabis are not absorbed well in water so it is likely that a lot of THC would get wasted when making a crude tea.

Works as a drink if you first make an alcoholic solution from hash/hash oil etc then add the alcoholic solution to milk, as the THC ends up in the fat droplets of the emulsion (why THC dissolved in alcohol (or any lipid soluble substance) goes cloudy when added to water)

Sativex did not work at all. Also, couldn't take enough of it as the taste was so awful and burned my throat.

Could someone please move this to the cannabis forum.

your wish is my command, although you are going to be disappointed....

Hey >: (

I'd suggest preparing edibles. There are many simple ways to do this, most can be found online. Personally, I would try to get as much cheap herb as possible (mids will work just fine, as will loads of trim) and just cook it into an oil or butter extract. From there, it is safe to bake into brownies or cookies. Google works wonders for recipes and preparation. Typically, I find that 2g per brownie will be overwhelming. I'm not sure what dose you are looking for or what therapeutic doses really are, I am a recreational user.

You can also try searching wash solutions or drinks such as Green Dragon. Firecrackers are a simpler, yet still effect option.

My best suggestion would be to move to a state with mmj. A warning to you: EDIBLES ARE MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE THAN SMOKING. If you think 2 grams isn't much, you will be surprised. I've had friends trip out or pass out from a 3g brownie before.

I'm sorry to hear you cannot smoke such a wonderful plant. Good luck....

dude, make yourself sum cannibutter, fry some pork in a frying pan and let the butter melt into the pork :P. or make some sandwiches with cannibutter. you can find out how to make it by typing it into google, its not that hard ;)
