i'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced substantial weight loss as a consequence of marijuana addiction?

personally, i lost 40 pounds during my addiction to marijuana and have never gained the weight back even though i don't smoke anymore. it's probably the only health benefit marijuana ever had for me (every other effect on my body was very negative, including stomach problems). i'm not sure through what mechanisms marijuana made me lose the weight though. i don't think it was a result of the stomach problems because i lost the weight before those even developed, probably within the first few months of heavy daily smoking i began to lose a lot of weight despite eating the same amount of food as usual. just wondering if it's common.

Pretty much everyone I know that has abused weed for many many years is very skinny. With the obvious hunger-enhancing effects of weed, this would seem quite strange. But I have read somewhere that long term abuse can result in overall appetite suppression, perhaps it is due to this?

I would definetely have to say that after a year a daily abuse i notice appetite suppression. I used to have really good eating habits and always a vacuum when it came to eating (though im underweight 135 lbs @5'10" 17 y.o.). but now i would say i eat only 1 meal a day and get stuffed. When i wake up i cant even eat for hours, due to stomach ache, unless i smoke, of course.

I only just started smoking again everyday the last week, and ive put loads of weight on :D

Didn't know it did this in the loong run tho :o

Unfortunately I do not have a scientific explanation, but just my observations and experiences. At first, smoking weed didn't affect my weight at all. Occasional pig outs were met with periods of no food, and therefore balanced caloric intake. Not a healthy one, but balanced, and thus no weight gain. My friends all seemed to be the same, however, several years later I have noticed that nearly all of us have lost weight and we do not partake in pig outs. I usually eat once a day, and it's always junk and hefty at that. I don't know about mechanisms, but extensive and extended abuse of cannabis certainly seems to encourage an unbalanced diet. That's probably the reason.

I've smoke weed several times daily for several months and have put on quite alot :(

Darn munchies and lack of drive >_<

Here is what happens. Your body gets you to eating a lot when you are high. to counter act gaining to much weight your body suppress your appetite until you are high. Many people get high get hungry and try not to "give into the munchies". So, you eat less than you normally would. I would say most of you that are experiencing a great amount of weight loss also have fairly to semi active life styles, so your metabolism is somewhat higher, and your intake is less, and those are the key and only components of loosing weight.

Most definitely, aquabat.

I go the whole day without eating, but when I sit down to smoke a bowl in the evening, I get the munchies in the worst way. I usually force myself to eat a meal about 30 minutes - an hour before I smoke to keep that from happening.

If you're not happy with being skinny, get fat.

=D

Or just smoke when you wanna eat normal meals, thats why I did when I smoked. I smoke during school and stop during summer. I know I know weird, job related stuff. Which brings me to the point of, you where not addicted to marijuana you just have a weak mind and probably shouldn't have been doing things that could get out of hand to begin with.

I've mostly put on weight since I've been smoking. But I don't blame the weed for that. I blame the beer. I have been cutting way back on beer to save money so I will have to see if I loose my appetite thanks to the weed. I hope so!

You cannot be physically addicted to weed, only mentally.

that's debatable and really depends on your definition of physical dependence. not worth getting into in this thread, use the search if you want to read about physical dependency on marijuana.

I've actually recently had appetite suppression after smoking pot daily for a while. I thought it was because I've started abusing alot of coke and that the coke's appetite suppression carried over even when I wasn't doing it.

I usually gain a few pounds when I go overboard with my smoking habit.

That is, if I don't watch what sort of munchies I eat.

I wish pot would aid in some weight loss.....that would be great.

Hell, I didn't even lose much weight when I was smoking crack everyday........ I think I just have a really slow metabolism or something...

I'm up over 200 pounds at the moment, but i think that recently i didn't smoke for a month, but i did gain weight, but i was drinking a lot more, and also i was lifting and eating right, so i gained muscle and fat.

Im 16 and a daily smoker yet I only weigh about 125 lbs. It's hard for me to eat in the morning and I generally only eat one proper meal per day (dinner) which is usually after a good smoke.

Other than that its the random bag of doritos and other garbage throughout the day.

^ Not trying to call ya out dude, but that is really unhealthy!!

Don't worry I used to/still do occasionally eat like that, but really I find it makes me run down with no energy. Coupled with smoking every day and I feel like a zombie.

It's really hard to force down food in the morning after smoking, especially if you pigged out (on unhealthy stuff usually for me too) the night before. I find that if I force myself to get up a bit earlier (So not sleeping in till midday lol), and eat a light breakfast (some sort of healthy cereal for me), I have a much bigger appetite throughout the day and can get a big lunch and dinner down as well, and feel so much better for it.

Its a lot better than waking up at 11-12, having a coffee, not eating till 3-4 then having a late dinner and pigging out.

Ya I usually sleep until 1ish, take a shower, go out with my friends smoke a bit, go home for dinner at around 6, go back and smoke again and maybe hit up mcdonalds if were still hungry then come home later at night and stay up until about 2ish.

Once the school year starts it'll be back to normal im sure
