MAOIs and Cider

I'm intending on having AMT again during a friend's 18th birthday party. I know AMT has relatively weak MAOI properties but I just want to be safe.

I've seen that beer is a no-go for MAOIs but what about apple cider (the kind usually bought in packs of 8/12 cans. I've tried looking it up on Google but couldn't find any information on it, on one forum I saw that I should "check the ingredients" but I've never noticed tyramine even on beer ingredients.

So, does anyone know if apple cider is safe to consume with an MAOI?

Thanks in advance for any help.

AMT has very weak MAOI activity and is nothing to worry about in practice. The serotonergic activity will kill you long before the MAOI activity becomes significant.

Wheather cider has appreciable amounts of tyramine in it depends on if it or any ingredients in it is fermented or not. I don't think the typical cider is fermented and shouldn't contain any tyramine to speak about.

The strict dietary restrictions for strong pharmaceutical MAOIs are not generally necessary for weak MAOIs. AMT is only a very weak and reversible MAOI so it's unlikely to cause any significant interactions with typical doses.

For future reference though, tyramine wouldn't be listed as an ingredient on foods/beverages, as it's not something that is added to them but rather naturally occurring or produced by the manufacturing process. Fermented things generally contain tyramine; cider does contain tyramine [source].

I'm pretty sure all alcoholic cider is fermented, isn't it? (I know in the US people sometimes refer to high-quality apple juice as "apple cider", but I assume the OP is talking about sparkling alcoholic apple cider). The typical cider in Ireland, where they are located, such as Bulmers, is definitely fermented.

Ciders contained trace amounts to 1.42 mg/liter histamine and trace amounts to 2.93 mg/liter tyramine.

I'd probably only drink 6 500ml cans if I'm having cannabis and AMT, probably even less - maybe 4.

So between 11.72 and 17.58mg of tyramine. Out of interest, would these be significant amounts of tyramine even if taken with a pharmaceutical MAOI or would their effect be negligible?

It varies a lot from person to person and depends on how much tyramine you normally consume as well, but generally with a strong pharmaceutical MAOI under 6mg of tyramine is considered safe, 6-10mg of tyramine is considered likely to produce a "mild" adverse reaction and over 10mg is likely to cause a "severe" adverse reaction.
