STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Of all the places he could have gone with a 25-pound bag of marijuana, a Tottenville man decided Thursday to walk into the South Shore's 123rd Precinct.

Benito Berrios, 41, told police at the Tottenville stationhouse he'd found the pot in a dresser at the furniture company where he works, said a law-enforcement source.

That claim piqued cops' interest and they asked Berrios if they could search his home. Berrios agreed.

When detectives arrived at his house on the 200 block of Chelsea Street, they allegedly found even more pot.

Seven large plastic bags were tied to the sides of bushes and trees in the yard of the residence, and inside were 74 small, vacuum-packed plastic bags each containing about a pound of marijuana, according to the source and court records.

The source could not estimate the street value, although some pot goes for about $5,000 a pound. That potentially makes the stash outside Berrios' home worth about $370,000.

"It's certainly the largest marijuana seizure I've ever been associated with," said NYPD Capt. Richard Gutch, who has commanded the 123rd Precinct for three years and been a captain on Staten Island for a decade.

Investigators want to know whether Berrios intended to distribute the pot.

"That's a lot to be using for recreational purposes," said the source, who couldn't immediately explain why Berrios had brought the pot to cops

Berrios and his wife, Kristine, 30, were arrested and charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor counts of criminal marijuana possession, according to a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan.

This is almost too stupid to NOT be a set up

Tied to bushes and trees, all outside the house?! This guys getting taken for a fuckin ride by someone

said the source alright........... sounds a little too smartass-ish..

-oh, and I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess sources did not estimate the price of the pot - which we all know they LOVE to do, and do poorly- because it's all bricks of dirt; and rather than admit their super-probably-set-up bust was for a bunch of garbage, they instead give an imaginary best case scenario. (And hey, if it WAS bud that could go for 5, they'd probably count each at 8-).

It seems like people get more and more stupid every fucking day, blows my mind, like what the fuck is wrong with people?!!?!?

This guy deserves to be in jail

There has to be something wrong with this, that or he is schizo and thought that by turning in some weed and being a good citizen that it would take possible heat in the future off of him? Grandiose fail?

This is un-fucking believable.Who in there right mind would turn in 25 pounds of weed with 75 pounds at home, and tied to trees on top of it.
There has to be something wrong with this picture. I can't believe someone could be this stupid.
But hey who knows

Gee, I wonder if he intended to distribute 100 lbs of pot, or smoke it all himself. Any other time there would be no doubt this guy wanted to corrupt little kids minds with his evil drugs, now they are dancing around the issue. The case itself looks like a set up, but the 'gee golly' attitude of the cops really raises some extra suspicion.

i wunder who he pissed off

oh lets get the dogs out and they start barking at every fucking tree and bush in his yard good thinking partner

plastic bags tied in bushes and trees...? Turning in a quarter of the product in your home...? this seems like a MAJOR setup or a framing of some sort... I don't care how paranoid you are or how hard you are tripping... that would NEVER seem like a good idea.
