I know there's a girly thread here, but us tuffguise care about keeping our bodies nice, too!

I used to be a little druggy in my late teens who didn't care or know anything about anything except shaving cream & fase wash. Now that I've started eating healthy, lifting, and turning into a proper vain man, I like learning about what to use to keep my skin looking & feeling great.

Right now I use a basic acne fase wash, and then supplement with a benzoyl peroxide lotion to keep my pimples under control. When I'm working out regularly I get acne on the top of my back/shoulders, so I'll use something like Neutrogena's Body Clear salicylic acid body wash. Sometimes I'll apply baby oil gel or a Vaseline lotion after I shower. I use a non-alcoholic aftershave (Nivea) to avoid drying my skin out too much. I use a proper shampoo (no nasty sulfates) & a natural conditioner after. To style my hair I use mousse & then hairspray to lock it in; though, I want to get Bumble's Sumo Tech. I'm also going to get some SPF body lotion to wear when I go out during the day.

What kinds of products do you use & why?

Hopeully this can turn into a megathread at some point.

Great thread idea Bob!

Hair --> I use shampoo on my hair maybe once every two weeks. It builds the natural oils which I can actually use to style my hair, and my hair is a lot softer and shinier. When I do shampoo, I use a castile soap and then do an apple cider vinegar rinse at the end to clear any soap residue, prevent dandruff, and make the hair softer. Once my hair is dry I might add a little bit of almond or jojoba oil to reintroduce some oil, but other than that, nada. On the rare occasion I might use hair paste to do a crazy hair style when going to a party but mostly I'm au naturel there.

Facial hair --> beard kept trim with a beard trimmer, and the parts I do shave with a razor I'll use witch hazel on after to clean and astringe the pores.

Face --> in the winter I use cocoa butter or shea butter before bed religiously to prevent dryness. (The face products in the Afro-products section of any drug store are usually superior to the white people stuff, I'm noticing.) In the warmer weather I might do a very thin layer of almond or jojoba oil after showering (when the pores are still open). Every few days if my face is quite dry I'll put a layer of castor oil on before bed, and I usually wake up with my face feeling super soft. I let the oil get into my beard and everything, and then in my morning shower the excess gets rinsed off with the hot water. I used to hate the idea of putting oil on my face but now I find it very clarifying.

I can't use most commercial products on my skin because they trigger dermatitis, so that's why I've had to go pretty natural about everything. One product that does seem to work well on my face is the Jason brand 10,000 IU vitamin E cream.

Products I use:

* Bic single blade disposable razors
* Barbasol shaving cream with aloe
* Witch hazel (generic)
* Dr Bronner's soap
* Old Spice deodorant - I like Pure Sport
* Sunscreen - I like fancy ones for sensitive skin because I use a lot of sunscreen :(

Not having hair other than perhaps a short beard means I get to go no poo. Dr. Bronner's or a good bar soap like Dove is enough for a thorough cleanup in the shower. I've never been a fan of cologne. I will use face wash/exfoliant stuff prn but not daily.

I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

damn dude I use deodorant and thats about it

maybe some skin lotion if I have dry skin somewhere

I feel like the less chemicals you need to apply to your skin the better tbh, a lot of that stuff seems like snake oil to me

^Not everything has to be chemically. I try to use more natural products when I can. It's summer now, so I need to pick up some bronzer. I don't want to have my skin get all old & wrinkly due to Mr Sun.
