Magic mushrooms banned from December

The ban on the sale of fresh hallucinogenic mushrooms in Holland is set to come in on December 1, the AD newspaper reports on Friday.

The paper says ministers are expected to vote in favour of the plan at today’s cabinet meeting.

The sale of dry mushrooms in so-called smart shops is already banned.

Health minister Ab Klink said last year he planned to ban mushroom sales following a string of incidents involving tourists.

According to Amsterdam health service figures, ambulances were called out 128 times last year to deal with people who had eaten hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Maybe it's a good thing. Do we really need these asshole tourists giving our beloved mushies a bad name?

How many times were ambulances called to deal with Alcohol related instances? 128,000?

But no, let's put them damn druggies in their place. Now mushrooms are just going to be sold on the street in front of the smart shops, instead of taxed and regulated. Smart move, put money into the dealers pockets and remove all aspects of quality control.

Fucking idiots.

like the article said, people are going to have to learn to grow themselves - which is not a bad thing at all

That's my view. If they are just banning the sale, but not the substance... I don't see this as a bad thing. If this were your country, would you want idiot tourists who just smoked weed for the first time popping a heroic dose and stumbling through the streets... EVERY weekend?

If it were legal to grow your own mushrooms or marijuana in the US, I could care less what the laws on selling it had to say.

they are not banning grow kits, according to an email I got from a smart shop

Wow, a step backwards for Amsterdam, or is the ban nation wide?

Including indirect deaths mushrooms and all psychedelics combined including MDMA kill less annually than OTC pain medications.(easily several hundred a year) As long as they are 18&up and use responsibly, what's the beef?

Well how can you expect them to outlaw those when they are legal to purchase and own here in the States? They could be used to grow legal culinary mushrooms so just like head shops there is legal wiggle room.

not that ive ever been to amsterdam but I like the thought of mushrooms being sort of a 'forbidden fruit' (like they are in north america for example) I think they (shrooms) have a great way of keeping themselves like that, when I heard they where legal over there I was just waiting to see how long it was to last, spores will still be available so for people who really want to experiement with them can, and you can be proud of yourself for growing such a foreign product kind of lol.

What a shame that some of the world's most liberal places--Amsterdam, Canada, etc.--are being taken over by conservative "moralists" trying to control everyone's lives. I've heard that Amsterdam's lax drug laws were going to see a tightening up for quite sometime...

...let's just hope they leave pot ALONE!

i am pretty sure this ban has nothing to do with the substance. Just the sale. Its not that big of a deal because i know the main goal is to stop "drug" tourism. It is the dumb ass's that fuck shit up for the rest of us

no I mean these kind of grow kits.. ready to start producing magic shrooms as soon as you open the lid and add water.. pretty sure they would be illegal in the USA

@ tekkeN: growkits contain mycelium, thus contain Psilocybin/Psilocin. So they are definitely illegal.

Only spores are going to be legal afaik.

The weird thing is. Officially, the National Forest Commission and the Nature Monument Group are now according to law criminal organizations. Which is utterly insane. Lets just hope they won't go and clear all forests from natural mycelium patches just to get rid of the mushrooms :/
