ive been on narcos 7.5/325 120 month and somas 350 mgs 60 a month, for 6 years. I have a bad back, i carry around size 36 ddd breasts, have a sciatic nerve, muscle spasms, and after having my last spinal block my back just hasen't been the same. I went to my normal monthly dr's appt today, only to have my dr tell me the dea has came in and is making him stop prescribing soma, and hydrocodone.. he gave me no soma and 60 hydros to wean myself off them in 15 days, and replaced my soma with flexeril (doesn't work). im having a hard time trying to decide what i should do, should i just stop? i know im gonna be affected physically and mentally and i dont want to go through that. but stopping would avoid me having to take pills the rest of my life, and save money..im sorry if this is not the correct place to post im just looking for some guidence or someone who will help me through what im sure is going to be the worst month of my life..thank you

So are you wanting to stop taking them or not? I would find another doctor. Seems a few docs are thinking they can straight up lie to their patients about the DEA telling them can't prescribe scheduled meds anymore. Its happening when they want an excuse to get some patients off the meds or the doctors start feeling a little pressure about having a lot of patients on scheduled meds. The DEA does in general want docs to be more careful about only prescribing long term pain meds to VERY few patients. But it would piss me off if my doc lied to me. I would ask him why...if they had specifically ordered him he couldn't prescribe anymore then it is doubtful he would be able to give you another 60. The only reasons why he would be ordered to no longer prescribe controlled meds was if he had gotten into some kind of trouble with them.

I would find a new doc.

Definitely consult another doctor. If you have documented injuries and the meds work, it's irresponsible practice for them to withhold medication that improves your quality of life. That is not a lot of meds, at all. Goddamn DEA!

I wouldn't take them like you used to for 15 days and then stop. Use them to taper down, starting with 2-3 pills a day, then quickly going down to 2 pills a day, then 1-1.5 a day, then 1, etc... Lower the dose every 5 days to ensure a longer taper, which will also buy you some time in finding another doctor. Once you find another doctor you may want to explore the option of doing a more efficient taper, ie lowering the dose every 2 weeks to a month instead of every 5 days.

thanks for your input, it is really sketchy the way my doctor went about the situation...to completely take me off my somas which to be honest helped me more than my hydros.. but to give me 60 pills to wean myself off of when in fact your supposed to not be prescribing...i do really want to stop taking them but right now my brain is stuck on the pain im going to have to endure..i went two days before and had severe leg cramps, sweats, headache, nausea, the runs,no eatting, high blood pressure,twitches,shaking,anxiety..you would think they would give you something to at least ease your symptoms

Hey jade.. sorry you find yourself in this spot<3.. and a warm welcome to Blue Light=D.. this is where a dr feels the pressure in the US ... >here< and this is the place to take it up.. it long beyond the time they learn what addiction is and provide the necessary with the every addicting prescription they provide, instead of just kicking the problem to the curb,, flapping arogant cant be bothered with their own problems drs!!!

On withdrawl
The medications I would explore the use of would be

>Clonidine< DOSED EVER FOUR HOURS..

one of either
>NEURONTIN< >HERE< >HERE<
OR >Lyrica<

>A BENZO BUT JUST AT NIGHT<
>a nsaid<
>melatonin<
tylenol

Is this a pain management doctor? It is true that they are under scrutiny. He could be under investigation or may have gotten sanctioned. He wouldn't just cut you off after 6 years because he's being mean, he's evidently been warned.

So if you want to get off the pills completely, you can wean yourself down. You will have some discomfort like you mentioned. Or you can look for a different doctor. They might require a newer MRI if you don't have one depending where you're at. Wish you luck either way.
