Lyrica (Pregabilin?) and Gabapentin

Are these drugs used in this country? I've heard such great things about them from American bluelighters, but my psychiatrist said they're not really used in Australia - which, incidentally, is exactly what he said about clonidine.

Gabapentin is Authority Required (STREAMLINED) for the treatment of partial epileptic seizures which are not controlled satisfactorily by other anti-epileptic drugs.

Gabapentin is Authority Required to be approved for the treatment of refractory neuropathic pain not controlled by other drugs.
(Basically, it's for pensioners/old fuckers and 'war' veterans

Pregabalin is Authority Required to be approved for the treatment of refractory neuropathic pain not controlled by other drugs.

IMO, tolerance builds super dooper quickly to these types of drugs, namely speaking from experience with Lyrica 75 mg x 14 capsule blister packs. It is not worth the money, IMHO. Each to his own neurochemistry.

im in nz and get gabapentin subsidised by our lovely government.
bit worried it could cause hypomania....any experiences?

Got a source for that? ;)

Also that in no way means its "for" any specific demographic as you suggested.

I'm sure if your experiencing severe pain thats untreatable through normal means, you'd consider it worth the money %)
Although these drugs represent a good deal of thereputic value and should really be on the PBS.

(ps. love your posts, adds a great deal of amusement to my reading hehe)

I was prescribed gabapentin ( Neurontin) 400mg.

After taking it for 5 days, I notice when I was lying down on my bed, my heart rhythm became irregular ( arrhytmmia)

Then my doc cahanged to Pregabalin, this is more sedating, and also causing heart rhythm dosorder whener I am lying on bed.

can you show me the cite for that?

my gabapentin (now available in generics) is covered by the pbs, not an authoritive script in my case either - could be wrong, the script it at the pharmacy. the rest of my scripts switch back and forth between authoritive or not depending on the doc's mood and attention span that dat. apparently i am in palliative care for the gabapentin.

ha, majorly disagree there. i much prefer it over lyrica and i'm only in mid 20's.

Are there any complications with mixing lyrica and stims? Meth in particular

Yes they are RX'ed in australia a "friend" of mine has got em prescribed for back pains along with valium at first doctor said to take 75mg 2 times a day then later uped the dose to 150mg..................250mg along with 5-10mg of valium dose the trick ;)

I've recently been put on Lyrica for my back pain, it's not the most effective med, but it does dull the pain somewhat and while on it I've reduced my intake of OTC painkillers and have been doing better with sleep (which may be due to the sedation as much as the pain relief). Only side effect I've noticed is aforementioned sedation, which was quite strong for a few days and let up a bit after that.

Only problem is that it's quite pricey, not sure if mods will get upset if I post the price, but it's not a cheap medication. I'll definitely have to evaluate if I want to continue with it after a month or so.

I've read accounts of people trying to achieve a recreational effect from it, but to me it doesn't even feel remotely recreational. The sedation isn't the dirty 'heavy' feeling of antihistamines, but it isn't the happy serenity of valium either.

^Same here. Didn't get any recreational value out of it when i tried 300mg for the first time the other night. Might try a higher dose next time

Have you seen any side effects? I took Neurontin (same family) for about a week and had to stop due to the feeling of a huge lump in my throat and no voice in the morning. I have really bad pain all over and that seemed to help, anyways does it help you with your pain? Thanks

That's crazy, all I had was some sedation, but I guess everyone is different.

Some good reading in that article, thanks for posting that. Looks like i might have to double my dose next time lol :)

Is clonazepam that recreational a benzodiazepine? I don't find so. It kicks in slowly (orally), and seems to creep up on you whereas other benzodiazepines have more of a... kick, for lack of a better word.

Yep. Most are big fans of clonazepam, but I didn't really rate it when i tried it as well. Think it all comes down to personal preference like most things..

^ I think that's it. Clonazepam doesn't really hit the spot for me (did for my brother), whereas alprazolam, temazepam, oxazepam, diazepam, lorazepam... they all do the trick for me. ;)

Hi brighton, the first time I took pregabalin, which is similar to gabapenting, I had a severe case of hypomania and had to stop cold turkey after a week. Then I went into depression. The mania felt great at the beginning, but I realised it would get me into trouble when I started buying, buying, buying whatever and for no reason. I didn't need that stuff at all. So take it, but keep an eye on the side effects
