Lung cancer or heart disease?

So, i've smoked bongs since the age of twelve, now thirty, I've pretty much committed myself to lung cancer at some point in my life. Would it be better to give up smoking and die a slow, painful death of lung cancer or just smoke myself into a quick, painful death via heart disease?

I have chronic chest pain. Can't even vaporise hash oil without it causing pain.

have you seen a doctor for it?
im just curious what made you come to these 2 options only.
ie. does heart disease run in your family or something?

Both heart disease and cancer run in my family, both sides. And, no, haven't seen a doctor but it's more of a general question. Maybe it would be bettert to just keep smoking until heart attack because at least that's quick, cancer is always going to be fucking horrible.

Who's to say you'll die quickly from heart disease?

Would it be better to give up smoking and die a slow...death...

[Tick to paraphrase] Give up now and you might be surprised how slow slow actually is. Having those diseases in your family doesn't automatically condemn you to an early death. At your age, if you stop smoking, by the time you're 45 your lungs will likely be little different from someone of that age who's never smoked.

True, it could be mild emphysema too, in which case the best thing by far is to quit chronically inhaling products produced via combustion. Even lung cancer might be preferable to dying of emphysema, i.e. not being able to breathe. So it could not hurt to stop. Make brownies or sumthin ;).

Isn't emphysema irreversible? And an ex smoker is a a much greater risk of lung cancer for the rest of their life, no?

It's irreversable, but the progress of it can be greatly slowed by stopping to inhale smoke.

As p_d probably remembers, i have tried giving up before with champix. Started a course again and have been off combustibles for about three and half weeks. Vaporising weed at <185 degrees seems to be OK, but when I vap butane oil or weed at >185 then I get pain across my lungs, concentrated in one corner. It seems to exacerbate it. But, yeah, that's where I'm coming from, a massive coronary might be preferable to the alternatives. maybe i should just stick to the bongs?

if you're really worried about it have a good chat to your GP and see where you stand with both conditions.

i agree with phase dancer, you could continue with life with no hassles from either condition if you play your cards right.

Can you switch to chewing tobacco or snus? Fwiw that's what I eventually did, and it took a big load off my lungs (smoked for 25+ years).

Yep, I remember. For goodness sake go and have a spirometry test. It's simple and tells a lot. If there's indication you've COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) you can have another test (plethysmography) to work out how advanced the disease is. But if at that point emphysema isn't diagnosed, stopping will help considerably. Hopefully the champix will work this time, some people seem to find it easier second time around. Best of British!

^^ Champix is great. i'm just a shit cunt and have a terminal sense of curiosity, like what WOULD a big hit of nicotine do to me after 6 months of being clean. But, yeah, I reckon I'll stay off it this time

If not, the "yuk factor" of smokeless tobacco is worth being able to breathe a lot easier, believe me... just thought I'd throw that in. Peace...

As p_d already pointed out, you might not have a quick, massive infarction. You may instead start suffering the symptoms of heart failure, or have a stroke that leaves you disabled.

Also it's Stroke Awareness week I think; maybe head into a local pharmacy and get your blood pressure checked? :)

My old man died last year in his mid 40,s of heart decease
Smoked from age of 12 both grass and smokes ..... They didn't find
My old man for 2 days ...... A shit way to die

damn, I could of sworn I already posted in this thread.

Bit Pattern: worrying about lung cancer and heart disease is a little premature if you haven't seen a doctor yet. go see a doctor, get a diagnosis, then you can go from there. Honestly, in your early 30s I doubt it would be either lung cancer or heart disease.

If you really can't quit smoking (which I am sure you can you just have to keep trying), then why not try an E cigarette. much better for you than smoking yet you still get the nicotine hit. and vaporise, don't use bongs.

I have found than any niggling issues I have had with my lungs, throat, sinuses have gone away with in a week of stopping smoking.

Haha, I had similar thouight s when I was your age..........I ended up with heart attack, no big deal I still have the odd smoke. Get yourself checked out, at least look at your bood pressure it's a simple test and might give you an indication on how your heart is going, as for jack dancer, well, none are exempt from it.

Life is short don't waste time shitting yourself about something you might not have to.
