Probably lots of threads on this but after watching the mo ie (excellent I found) the quaaludes talk really hit me....any older timers out remember hitting these. I wrong thought they were a barb but seems not....we're they half a stimulating, half a sedative....part MAMA.

We're they attributable to a lot of deaths like barbs etc.

Obviously they seem impossible to aquire which makes them all the more romantic.

Sorry guys.....I slip so easy into meander mode and indeed should hit search more than I do. Probably basically a question of user experience since they seemed impossible to obtain.....Some old time user reports are the closest some of us might come. Just nostalgia honestly.

I know or have met older people who took ludes in the 70s or early 80s.

They said how they made them feel very drunk, everything got slow, and some people would black out from them.

They also said how it was a wonderful sleep aid, and that the drug did give them some euphoria.

I was one of those folks and to tell you the truth, I loved them beyond belief. Unfortunately, tolerance on them was ridiculous. Within a day or two, I'd need to keep doubling the dose to get the same effects. As you can imagine, that can get pretty dangerous not to mention expensive. But you did indeed portray how one feels on them except I never encountered anyone blacking out. I really do miss them.

The people I know who blacked out on them drank a lot on them.

They are still around in South Africa under the name Mandrax, but some people smoke them there.

Oh nooooo, I didn't do that because the drunkenness felt like 5-10x the effect from just alcohol alone. I never liked getting "that" drunk and still don't as a matter of fact. I chalked up Ludes with coke, drugs I liked WAY TOO MUCH for anything good to come from it. I vowed to never go over the line with drugs like that.

I was too young to be around for quaaludes, but they are a prototypical euphoric downer. Modern day benzos like xanax and clonazepam don't even come close. According to what I have read and heard they were similar to a good alcohol buzz without the stomach upset. Closest thing nowadays would perhaps be soma or GHB.

Placidyl on the other hand was another sleeping med which I actually do remember. Eventually those green pickle shaped gel caps suffered the same fate as ludes did and for the same exact reasons.

What was Placidyl like? Did you ever take barbs like reds/seconal?

Never took any barbs at all, but placidyl was very similar to drinking a 6 pack of beer in relatively quick succession, both mentally as well as motor coordination wise. Being a GABAergic it also had the same risk for physical addiction as the benzos and barbs. Some people would poke a hole in the caps and squeeze the gel out on top of a bowl of weed. How well this worked I have no idea but that liquid tasted vile.
