Luck, Fate, Or God?

here's my 2 cents on this whole thing...

Personally, I don't think god has any plan, i think he/she/it, whatever, might now even know we exist. We are just small parts of him, all our actions and all occurences of events make up his thoughts and everything that exists on this physical plane is his body. All these religions are just different perspectives of the same exact thing. Books like the bible were written ages ago, and not even in the english language. Even if the translation is accurate. People take the words in there too literally. As somebody in this post mentioned earlier, they look at god as being some guy with a white beard in the sky. Essentially if you take out all the bullshit, most religion is the same thing from different viewpoints.

As for praying, i think this is no different from casting spells that wiccans do, or anything else along those lines practiced in other religions, any rituals. All those are just catalysts in my opinion. The power is in your mind. It is all about self-hypnosis. The manifestation of your thought into reality. A person has the power to convince himself anything he wants, and whatever it is he convinces himself that is the way it will go for him. The person will see whatever it is they wish to see, and block out whatever they do not wish to see. They will be hypnotised by themselves to think that way. All prayer does is help convince you that something will happen because you prayed, and it might in fact happen just because you hypnotised yourself to believe that it will, so you will see almost anything as your prayers being anwsered. That is where the whole matter of faith comes in.

Whatever you believe in, that is what will hold true for you. The more faith you have in it, the more you will see of it, and the more your thoughts will continue to make themselves into reality.
I think that peoples thoughts manifest themselves into reality to a certain extent. If you pray, it is because you want something to happen really bad. If you want it bad enough and just keep wanting it, stopping at nothing to get it. Eventually, you will. As long as it not something unbelievably unreasonable like flying, breathing underwater, being immortal, etc... The praying, spells, chanting, rituals, all that stuff, just helps you convince yourself that you will get it. You can accomplish this without prayer or spells once you realize that is all you're doing. Just convincing yourself you will get something. The more sure you are that you will get it, the higher the chances of you getting it are. Thats why they say, all those things about having faith. Because if you dont' faith, (stay convinced), that god is real and you will get what you prayed for then you wont get what you prayed for. This is because if you do not believe in god, then that thought will manifest itself into reality for you, and you will continue to see no evidence of, or logical reasons for gods existence because of the fact that you believe that there is none. That is why faith matters.

The more faith you have, the more you convince yourself, the more you will see of what you want to see and the more your thoughts will make themselves real. Ever notice how you can not talk to somebody for 4 years, then one day think of them, next thing you know, they call you. You proceed to say to them, hey I was just thinking of you today, for the first time in 4 years, what a coincidence. I think that is no coincidence. Just the manifestation of your thought.

So here's a suggestion to all of you that pray. Try this if you want. In your mind accept the fact that all you're doing by praying is convincing yourself that you will get what you're praying for. The chances of what you want to happen have now increased because you prayed, according to you. Try to instead of praying, just wanting what you want a whole lot, and believing that you will get it. See wat happens. You'll probably get the same results. If not, my opinion is that this is just because you are more easily convcinced that it will happen if you pray, and cannot convince yourself it will happen as much without performing some sort of action to help you accomplish the hypnotised state of mind in which you believe you will get what you want, thereby manisfesting that thought into reality.

might not make much sense to most of you, and even sound crazy to some others, but its how i see it.
peace and much love,

Tr6ai0ls4: I agree that prayer is similar to casting spells since there is an element of you imposing your will upon reality. A lot of people who practice spell casting shape their spells as prayers to get "holy" enchancement. The art of praying certainly does have its roots in meditation and mystasism.
But all that aside, praying does not necessarily have to involve self-hypnotising yourself to the point that you believe something happened when it doesn't. If a person is going through an operation, and they die, its not like you'll convince yourself they aint dead because of your prayers.
To take your comments further though, there is a tonne of scientific research popping up everywhere that suggests a persons perception of what will happen does actually have an effect on the outcome. If you set out an experiement that has a completely random outcome, and if you then visualise the end result, that in itself will play a role in the experiment and it may effect the final result. The power of the mind is an amazing thing.

all people who have gone into remission from cancer have all used some kind of meditation (as well as other things). power of the mind is an amazing thing.

Yeah, right. I doubt you could possibly have proof of that absurd statement.

why, sure, PB, that info is put out by prevention magazine, which can be a physicans monthly bible for alot of them. you can find detailed info in their book Alternative Cures, by Bill Gottlieb as complied from over 300 of americas top doctors and specialtist and natural healers. it is updated on a yearly basis. if you understand how disease is caused and how your body works , then you should understand powers of meditation. even an atheist.
i also have a book written by The American Association of Naturopathic Physicans that covers it more indeptly saying that other forms of meditaion such as yoga, visualization, and qigong work just as well.
im sure a search on terminal disease and meditaion could turn up alot for you if you want more then that.

I wonder where you faith will reside when your prayers cease being answered.

I find it amusing that people resort to god in times of life threatening situations - they only find god when they need god.

That's actually a good point Frekwency.

Most people seem to only communicate with God when things are either going very badly or very well. This might be because a lot of people see prayer as a way of getting what they want, as opposed to what they need. I also agree with some of what Tr6ai0ls4 says but not the part about wanting something so bad you make it a reality. That only deals with things on the physical level. I wouldn't even call that prayer. Praying to get what you want is is just a selfish material action. I think true prayer is getting in touch with your spirit ('God' if you want to call it that). If you were truly in touch with God, you wouldn't desire anything because you would have faith that what is needed would be provided, and that whatever is happening to you at the time is just God showing you what you need to be shown at the time to learn what you need to learn. Prayer, then, is a way of staying on whatever path it is that you are supposed to be on. Instead of praying and asking for an object, you should pray and ask for an answer when you have a question. If you keep an open mind you'll probably be shown an answer.

So about the tornado...In terms of what that event means to you on a personal level, maybe it isn't about your lives being saved as much as it was a wake up call. It obviously was a big enough deal to make you start contemplating the existance of a higher power. And from this point on in your life you will probably be a lot more open to signs, and a lot more open to the idea that things happen for a reason. Maybe this event marks the beginning of a big change in your life? And if that's the case, maybe why it happened isn't as important as the fact that it did happen.

damn nigga, you lucky to be alive. i pray to the lord jesus christ every day. he's my only salvation.

i cannot relate to this at all; people who believe in the power of prayer (beyond a psychological explanation) seem mad to me; i mean, "god"? COME ON! i am glad i didn't get socialised in a believing environment; you people live in a very strange world indeed

God always answers prayers. sometimes it may not me what you want, but your prayers never go unanswered. sometimes you have to wait, because its not the time. sometimes your answers no because its not in your plan.

yea, define an answer to prayer as "whatever happens" and you can find god's will in everything; congratulations, nothing can convince you; but then again, that's the nature of belief;

i find it rather ridiculous;

There's a bit of luck, a bit of fate, but mainly its God.

yea, and you justify that assertion with some random couple's story you once saw on a TV show? i mean, ... i don't even know what to say to this; maybe... "yea dude"
