I'll try and keep the background information as short as possible, sorry if it gets boring.

I've been on strong opioid pain killers for 2 years.
Well, I was on (alternately) Codeine Phosphate 480mg/day (I doubled my dose) or Tramadol (400mg/day...didn't wanna fuck with the seizure risk) for 17 months (so weak opiates then) then due to two collapsed disks in my spine. I am now a recovering alcoholic but was drinking up to 6 bottles of wine (up 54 units of alcohol) a day during that time.

7 months ago I was rushed into hospital with severe acute alcoholic pancreatitis, complicated by severe alcohol withdrawal (I was vomiting so much and so often that I physically couldn't get any alcohol in me). I was in ICU 2 months and very nearly died.
Anyway, I was immediately put on IV morphine for the pain. I had no problems whatsoever with bad dreams during this time (although I did have hallucinations, I never felt threated by them or afraid).

When I left the hospital I was prescribed MSContin (modified release morphine sulphate) plus oramorph (a 10mg/5ml morphine sulphate syrup) for breakthrough pain. For the first I'd say somewhere between 8-10 nights on these I suffered extremely disturbing nightmares, sometimes turning into night terrors, too. These dreams were so horrendous I was amazed my brain was capable of coming up with them (and I'm both a writer and a naturally very creative person with a fondness for horror and extreme cinema). After this relatively short period (more than a week, less than two) the dreams abruptly stopped and all was good.

About 6 weeks ago, I was switched from morphine to OxyContin (with oxycodone "roxi's" for breakthrough pain). This time the dreams were not an issue.

3 days ago I discovered fentanyl. I've been using both a nasal spray (instant) and the 72 hour transdermal patches. And again I have started having the nightmares/night terrors to be the point where I am terrified to go to sleep.

Will these dreams go away like they did with the morphine? Has anyone else experienced this on fentanyl? Or when starting an opiate?

Fentanyl is amazing for my pain and - I'm pretty sure everyone on here knows by now I'm addicted to opiates and abuse my medication lol - is probably one of the most warming, calming and euphoric opiates I have tried. So I REALLY want to avoid discontinuation if possible.

Can anybody offer advice or share similar experiences?

It would be much appreciated :).

Once when I was 19 I had been awake for like 2 days on adderall/(maybe meth?) anyways, I took a handful of hydrocodne and tried to get some sleep. Suddenly I was basically in hell, I heard voices discussing me, demonic voices. Saying I was worthless and that my soul would be easy to capture and would never survive.

Suddenly two demons (picture 13 foot tall reptillion looking one, and another hairy red eyed beast) which smelled of sulpher , just started tossing me around like a rag doll. I awoke to my dad shaking me, saying I was screaming out at the top of my lungs that i didnt want to die, and that I was sorry. Whats crazy was the demon that was strangling me at the time, morphed into my actual concerned father while he was shaking me awake.

I consider these more than just dreams. I was in a dark place at the time in my life. Opiates can open the passahege ways to many places, not all of them good. Be safe, make good choices

Hey Oxy,
well, i'm on the patches (100 mcgr/hr every 48 hrs) for 10 fuckin years, and I think you would be better going back, either on MS-Contin or oxy..You would be better, for sure, as you abuse your meds (i don't blame you, you're not the only one..;)). You're only 3 days on fent, that's why you find it eiphoric, this will change very fuckin soon, believe me..For the nightmares, i think it's smth temporary and it will go away (IMO), but staying (and abusing) on fent, will get you in serious problems my friend, believe me..
I don't have time now, cause i've got a work to do, to give you more details, but if you want i can post when i'm free...Be well and safe, mate, and i hope the nightmares will leave you..And be careful with the fuckin fent, go slow..

Thanks :) Oxy is still my main opiate, but I'm running low atm so stuck on a fentannyl patch to avoid withdrawals. I have an instant release fentanyl nasal spray that is euphoric for me. The patches aren't. I know how strong and dangerous fent is. I never abuse the patches, just stick one on my arm as directed.

Yeah oxy,
i'm really glad to hear this, cause the fuckest thing at fent (except from OD with almost no warning signs), is how rapidly it goes your tolerance through the roof...please never forget it..and of course by no way i didn't meant to offend you. Have fun and be safe, man..%)

Thanks :)
The last week or so (10 days I think) I've been using stupid amounts. I usually use 150-250mg of oxy and I'm going to stick to that again. I know I can do it very easily as it's what I usually so, even when I have a large supply available.

When I use the fentanyl nasal spray, I count the doses and then calculate the equivalent amount of opiate into oxycodone and include it in my daily total.

I'm currently low on Oxy so am wearing a fentanyl patch.

I always know exactly what I am doing. I thoroughly research everything and am very safe :).

Hi Oxy8_8:)

I always know exactly what I am doing. I thoroughly research everything and am very safe

I have seen numerous threads of yours over the last couple of weeks, and while it's good that you ask lots of questions in order to be safe with your usage, I can't help but notice that you seem to be taking a lot of different drugs in fairly large amounts.

Some of your substance taking seems a bit haphazard, too. You've asked about how to minimise the sedative effects of high doses of opioids, and asked how to potentiate opioids, and mentioned taking just about every kind of opiate/opioid within the last couple of weeks.

Sorry if this is intrusive, because I don't know the full circumstances of your situation.. but you do seem to be taking a lot of different drugs and always seem to be wanting to take more to micro-manage every aspect of your experience with them.

I'm concerned about where you're headed with it all.

Take care and I apologize if you feel this is none of my business.

While none of it IS your business :P (I say that lightly, no worries, man :)) I'm actually quite touched that you care enough to write a post like that :)
I actually just posted somewhere on here last night that I had been going a bit mad with the drugs over the last 7-10 days and that I was going back to my usual limits from today (which I am).
My rule was (and now is, I'm strictly adhering to it) that I take 150-250mg Oxy a day. If you have been reading my posts then you probably also know that I do genuinely suffer from severe chronic pain and I am prescribed 150mg/day of OxyContin and oxycodone for that. It's the bare minimum I need to get through the day, so I can never really have less than 150mg. I take roughly 200mg most days and take 250mg probably a couple of times a week when I want a really nice buzz.
Sometimes I manage to come across fentanyl or morphine sulphate. From now on I am calculating what it's equivalent in oxycodone is (eg taking a 60mg MS Contin would be the same as taking a 30mg OxyContin) and including that in working out my daily allowance.
I am currently wearing a 75mcg/hr fentanyl patch. That is 1.8mg fentanyl a day. Fentanyl is approximately 50 times for potent than Oxycodone so 1.8mg fentanyl equals 90mg oxycodone.
Therefor while I am wearing the patch I will be taking 60-160mg oxycodone a day :)

I have a high tolerance (which as you see I am regaining control of) plus I like to try and get the best I can out of what opiates I get. The reason it seems I'm always trying to take more of everything is just because I'm often askin purely hypothetically because I want a detailed knowledge of how different opiates/anti-histamines/benzos interact, which are best to mix, what dose etc.
I honestly am very safe and have regained control. I never really lost it, I just went a bit other the top last week. I think we all do that occasionally.

Sorry for the long, boring answer lol.

im confused, first in the other thread you cant get to sleep, so if u cant sleep, how do u have nightmares? lol

Hi again Oxy,

Sorry for the long, boring answer lol.

No need to apologise for answering the question I asked!

I appreciate that you responded to my query, which could have been seen as accusatory. My post was not meant to be chastising or telling you off, it was just trying to understand better where you're coming from. And I think this answers it nicely:

The reason it seems I'm always trying to take more of everything is just because I'm often askin purely hypothetically because I want a detailed knowledge of how different opiates/anti-histamines/benzos interact, which are best to mix, what dose etc.

I totally get that. It's great that you're reading up and asking for people's experiences in order to better understand your own options and how suitable they may be for you.

I think I just got some alarm bells in my head when I was reading some of your posts that mentioned trouble with alcoholism in the past, and then saw that you're using oxy and other things. I got this feeling that you might be trying to escape from issues you were dealing with ( or avoiding) by taking heaps of stuff, and I know from first hand experience that taking ever-increasing doses of potent drugs and mixing them... well it leads to trouble. It's very sad when we see another name added to the BlueLight shine. It seems to happen too often... so I just asked how you were doing.

But I guess I just read it the wrong way: I didn't see how much was actually for chronic pain, or that you were reading up on lots of stuff but not actually taking them all at the same time. It's good to hear that you're getting your control back. Keep it up and stay safe!
