Trip 1. LSD (1 tab) & MDMA (I was dabbing it).
For my first ever LSD trip I was at Glade Festival, had done almost no research into it, and had an 8 hour stewarding shift to look forward to starting at 4am ... in short I was a bit of an idiot. Also my experiences before this were a small dose of shrooms, taken weed a few times, and about 8 nights on MDMA... Still, I was curious, had heard good things, and completely through my usual caution to the wind.
Took the tab at midday, then after 3 hours as it hadn't hit me (not that I could notice anyway) I started taking MDMA. Then from about 3.30pm onwards I was up...
The first thing I noticed was the grass patterning and also appearing to become a fluctuating surface like a relatively calm sea... I went to the toilets and their surfaces were patterning like crazy, and then went to a tent with fractal imagery and got lost in that for a while.
Where it became truly wondrous was when I went back outside and was lying on the ground, my friend became somewhat fox like and radiant, and there were the faces of Viking and Roman gods engraved as if in glass in the sky floating along, bordered in engraved circles and backed by fluctuating fractal clouds.
In all, absolutely fantastic. Then my friends started wanting to do things other than just focus on the acid, so I went along with them for a while but then wanted to get back to it so I (foolishly) went off on my own to chill out. After a while (towards 10pm) I became quite upset and paranoid about whether I should have even gone to the festival and went to my tent (again, as I'd not looked into it prior to I wasn't expecting this, and it was probably helped by coming down off MDMA). I pulled myself out of this after a few hours by realising I would miss Current Value if I stayed there, and also began to recognise it for what it was.
The good part of the trip I value for the beauty it showed me.
The bad part I also value for what it taught me about myself - my fears, my needs...
The shift of work was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting, I was sat wearing a great many layers watching the night sky, still faintly tripping, and a random girl came and joined me who had beautiful golden flecks in her irises.
So... if anyone hasn't taken acid and wants to: be prepared. Check out experiences here and on erowid.org. My first lesson, learnt the hard way, was that of the mind fuck. If you're not sure you've ever experienced it, you probably haven't, be aware.
Trip 2. Tribe of Frog.
After Glade I did a lot of research into LSD on Erowid and other sites, the one thing I didn't truly comprehend however was the lesson about setting. I thought that Tribe of Frog (a very friendly, lovely psytrance night in Bristol) would be appropriate. Whilst it probably would be for those more experienced, for me perhaps it wasn't. I'm not entirely sure why, but when I came up I let myself be taken by the dark thoughts for a good hour, an urban viking and my druid-like badger of a friend greatly helped me through this and taught me a 3rd lesson (the 2nd being to really have a think about whether the setting is appropriate): To dance.
It might be placebo, or it might have deeper reasons... but dancing really helps, if you can get your ass up and sway to the music you can reach a more chilled out place.
The rest of this night was good, and after this I had truly learnt to control (or at least recognise and not become obsessed by) paranoid / dark thoughts.
Trip 3. New years Tribe of Frog
Having learnt from the previous lessons, this night was pretty spot on. I risked taking MDMA with it (a cheap way of having a good trip, and I've met people who say it can weaken the hallucinations but I'd say the opposite).
Not too much to say, everything was beautiful, company was interesting, and was all in all very enjoyable. Also... I discovered (or became aware of) how good a combination LSD and Laughing Gas make.
I'd done it during my first trip, but not been aware that that wasn't how it always is. Laughing gas usually seems to make your hearing loop, which is pretty cool. For myself, laughing gas on acid makes my whole damn awareness loop... which is incredible. I've felt like as I've been walking along I've left 'images' of myself behind me, which when I stopped caught up with me (like a perceptual after image... I think of it best as Mirror Image spell in Baldurs Gate, with the images then slamming together). Also I've had a balloon become the centre of reality, my brain a detached thing... Thoroughly recommend, but have someone watch you don't choke.
Trip 4. Friends house
Lesson 4: Orange Juice is the God of Grumpiness. I became a little grumpy as I was tired, my friend gave me some orange juice - I was very sceptical but it directly lifted my mood and made me trip like a bastard for a short while and left me calm again. Something to do with the Vit C apparently.
Also, hallucinogens at night are nice, the number of stars increased many fold and they all twinkled - when a plane flew by they all took on the colours of the plane lights. My friend's neighbours fir tree merged fractally with the night sky, and my friend sitting in shadow covering his face, had his face replaced by a multi coloured star. Also discovered another friend has the most shifty face on earth, for a full 30 minutes it elongated shrunk expanded contracted and generally wouldn't stay still...
Trip 5. Glade 2009
Another idiotic session on my part, though instead of letting it get me down I simply laughed at my stupidity.
After a full weekend of partying heavily (I usually have a limit of doing a substance once a month, I decided to forego this for Glade 2009) - I had taken 2ct7 and speed (just a little) on the Friday, 2cb or some other 2c on the saturday, and on the sunday taken pills (very very good ones, surprisingly) and some form of trippy speed i forget the name of. Then close to midnight, because I'd taken acid at midday but it did nothing due to denaturing in the heat and I'd been very much looking forward to it, I took a drop. So after being up 12 hours and having knackered myself dancing all weekend, I took a substance that I myself cannot sleep on, then chilled in my tent and didn't sleep. Quite stupid of me but I don't necessarily regret it.
Lesson 5: Have more respect for LSD. Originally I planned to take it once or twice a year max, ended up taking it 5 times in the space of one year (glade to glade). I'm now not going to take it for a long while, in fact since mid July I've taken pretty much nothing.
Anyway... anyone who reads this and hasn't taken it before, you'll have a great time if you do it right
Anything you think you might get worried about, seek to negate first (through research and planning).
Remember: Orange Juice, Dancing, and LSD is probably best taken when you want only to focus on the LSD. Also advisable, as I've seen elsewhere suggested, build up to it (weed... shrooms... etc).
