I barely trip visually (even on 4 hits of acid) but I do have a very strong feeling of transcendence.

Is it possibile that some people are immune to insane visuals

...actually I don't care that much, the visuals don't matter to me.... but if visuals are a necessary part of LSD, I might just have a very high tolerance, and need to take even more.

Same "problem" for DMT.

Visuals aren't necessary per se, they're just pretty.

The action of looking for visuals may hide them further. Just let it happen or not happen.

I get this as well. I never really get many visuals for anything that I take, and I am quite experienced with an array of substances. I guess it is just personal brain chemistry. I like it sometimes because it lets me focus on what is going on inside of my head rather than focusing on the pretty colours

What settings do you trip in?

I've found small groups are the best for classic psychedelics. Just fixate on something and let your ego dissolve. At this point something objects usually sprawl out into elaborate patterns. On acid its very evident, I can do it on one tab. On mushrooms it was slightly different but equally as awesome, although only achievable on 1/8+.

To try and get visuals going there are a couple things you can do. Stare at something (a vase of flowers, a poster, some piece of bric-a-brack, with a fixed gaze on a single spot for 30 seconds to a minute without moving your eyes around and blinking as little as possible.

This alone on just about ANY psychedelic almost always will have you seeing shimmering outlines, areas inside an outline suddenly brightening or dimming or changing color.

THEN... suddenly look away from the original thing over to a large blank wall, or if none is available, a blank white (or colored or even black but mostly BLANK) piece of paper or cardboard.

Now, the previous pertubations, as well as seeing an afterimage is a normal thing the visual system does even when straight, but a psychedelic, even weed but especially a proper strong psychedelic, will amplify these effects via its potent alteration of the neurons in the visual processing centers of the brain by MANY MANY times.... you will be very likely to see the afterimage, that would usually only last several seconds (and be the "opposite" colors as the original) last a VERY long time... consist of VERY strong exaggerated easy to notice color modulations, and also, this is the best part, its outline will often take on a life of its own and start to morph radically... sometimes randomly like jelly, other times into sharp, recognizable outlines of other related objects... like the outline of a house cat morphing into the outline of a lion, which may then stand up, grow legs and walk away. It seems that the tripping brain knows it is no longer seeing input from real objects that "ought" to remain constant, so the constraint of remaining stable is just ignored, and the freedom of alteration conferred by the psychedelic takes over, and the conscious awareness part of your tripping brain seems to understand that IT can now take control of the "outline shape controls" of this non-real afterimage projected onto blank paper and start to play with it at will.

Another EXCELLENT starting point is a field of repeated geometric designs, like those infinitely repeating arrays of starburst designs on a ceiling,,or those really cool arrays of little triangles in designs and patterns that they sometimes put into covers over radiators or walls and stuff... even a nice repeating wallpaper geometry design can work. Just stare at the middle of one of these for a while, and you will very likely start to notice strong and coordinated changes in color, brightness and darkness of the elements all around the point you are staring at, forming at first still, then maybe even moving outlines and patterns out of what is really a constant stable design, often to the beat and flow of the music if there is any.

Having MUSIC on during these exercises can often really help... while tripping there are MUCH stronger cross-influences between hearing and sight than normal... seriously, MUSIC, especially with a strong rhythm, can greatly enhance the formation of visuals.

NOW, and this is the key point: After you have done these "hallucination ignition exercises" for a while, this really seems to "teach" your brain/mind that "HEY! I can change what stuff looks like or make up whatever I want"... it can teach you how to SEE the visuals that your "must maintain visual stability" visual processing subroutines had been blocking.. and let you turn that subroutine OFF at will... you might then try closing your eyes to music and find to your delight that your mind has learned to create and project all sorts of things into the blank field inside your eyeballs.

When I first started tripping I too was disappointed and frustrated by the same "Wheres the hallucinations?" "issue". Then I just discovered by accident that I got more visuals staring at patterns, and doing the afterimage play thing, and learned that this could be used to jump-start the visual tripping processes that I had previously not really learned to notice or "turn on".

They call it "turning on" for a reason, and sometimes its just something you have to teach your brain how to do. Soon enough it will become easy and second-nature.

Hope this helps. Let us know if it does! (Does any of this ring a bell for anyone else?)

Yeah, I'm also like that. A dose that makes other people trip balls doesn't do anything to me visually.
With a bigger dose I can have some rare amazing CEV but I need to be listening to some good psychedelic music and I need to focus very hard on trying to give shapes to the sound. It normally takes 30 minutes until the first images appear in my head and with a bit of luck it turns into one of those rare trips where I can see the sound the whole way. Also, weed, for me is like rocket fuel for acid. Sometimes I don't even feel the acid until I smoke weed, and then...booom, welcome to trip-o-land. =)

Insanely intricate and intensely obvious visuals have always been a part of my psychedelic experiences regardless of dose. However my girlfriend only gets visuals for the first 2-3 hours of LSD then hardly any.

I don't get intense OEVs very often even on extremely high doses of most psychedelics. DMT is a bit of an exception, but I can take 5 strong hits of acid and have only minor haloing / changes to color without any geometric patterns, symbols/glyphs appearing, etc.

When I "crave" visuals as part of a trip, particularly if I don't want to crank the dose up to 11, I set aside some time during the peak to listen to music with my eyes closed. Immersing myself in some Shpongle or Tool usually does the trick.

I agree with what others have said,

If you really want to notice visuals fix your gaze or "stare" at something for 30 secs. or so. Let your eyes shift in and out of focus and your visuals will become much more pronounced.

BTW you could always up the dose. I have had VERY visual experiences on LSD and some with none noticeable unless I practiced the steps above. I find it really depends on the dose.

this is verrrrrry true with me as well. Last night i took 3 hits of some pretty decent blotter and it was a truly amazing trip (thought loops and all :P) but it was only what i would consider mildly visual. What has always been the best for me though is looking at the stars while tripping, it really gets me going. I've just learned to enjoy the trip...

I don't get much in the way of serious visuals either. I get mild visual effects, and the way i think about what I see is greatly changed, but i've yet to get strong OEVs. Smoking pot on the peak helps to bring out visuals, but reduces the clarity of the trip and sometimes adds anxiety. Really, though, visuals aren't what tripping is about, so it's not a big deal for me - though at some point i'd like to experience strong visuals

Stars are amazing while tripping.

Good advice here, I'll echo some suggestions.

Music is helpful. I've had trips where absolutely nothing was going on visually, then I put on some chanting music and me and my friend both got some swimmy visuals for a couple of minutes.

Lately I've been using shadows/lights as catalysts for my 2ce and 2ci trips. We turn on the lamps and check out the shadows on the wall and ceiling, soon it starts swimming and breathing as the pattern spreads. Things with a lot of detail help too.. pattern tiles, carpets, fabrics, wood and even skin. It seems I need to concentrate on anything for a little bit to bring them out though, if I'm constantly moving around I don't get much so sadly walking around outside didn't bring it out. I didn't have much going on when I'm in nature with these, just very vivid visuals but not colorful swirling patterns. It's just been me and my gf on these trips.

Two of my more visual trips involved 3 people or more. One was on mushrooms and the other was on AMT. The AMT was incredibly visual specifically this one time with a group of friends. Looking at the clouds, in the ocean. They pointed out a cement wall with a ton of detail and it just started swirling into madness for me, they'd suggest we look in a mirror and we all got the same effect. We kick over a box of rice and we all see maggots. The craziest moment was just walking on the street and the entire pavement started swirling and taking up my entire field of vision. Randomly I turned around and was the only person to catch fireworks going off in the sky one night, it was orgasmic. My friends just hear "HOLY...*BOOM*"

Also I suggest a light/darkness contrast. Try going from darkness outside to a bright place indoors or a bright day outside to a dim place indoors.

It took a while for me to get what I was seeking but I'm glad I got those experiences and now I'm hoping to find that visual madness again. Staring at that stuff makes me smile, laugh and go into a deep meditative trance.

I'm very sensitive to visuals, 10mg of psilacetin was enough to turn my whole visual field into a kaleidoscope if I let my vision go unfocused or stare at one spot.

the cid i used to take years ago was very strong ,never needed more than 2 hits, and everyone i ever hooked up (freinds etc)always had many visuals, never even herd of peeps not gettin them,
I think its a matter of strength,my owne oppinion of course..
Also alot of the visuals that you do get on cid or shrooms has to do with that liquid on yer eyeballs floating around constantly changeing shapes of things like wood graines and say curtans moveing etc .
Kinda miss the acid ,it was my favourite drug of choice when i was young, just started bad trippin and had to quite but i sure wouldnt mind doin it now again, just wouldnt have a clew where to find it in this little city...
man the good old days..trippin with a circle of good freinds passing the bowl or reef around ...
Also loved the nature thing when trippin,if ya dont get visuals from walkin threw a dencely wooded area i dont know ...very serene and the bond between nature and acid seem to go hand in hand.Though trippin out at home listening to soothing music is always good to.....

LSD is very special for me to.
I get visuals with a lot of psychedelics (DMT, shrooms, 4DMT/MET), but not realy with LSD.
Yet my LSD trips are a lot deeper and magic than thoses.
To have visuals on LSD, i have to relax, close my eyes and let my thought wander freely.
The visuals with LSD are just delicate pieces ot art.
I got the feeling that its not something a chemical put in my face, but a real creation of my mind.
LSD is art.
In the art history, there is a before and an after LSD.
There was nothing comparable with shrooms or DMT.

My mate never had visuals on any psychedelics before, just mild morphing. He'd eaten large amounts of LSD but never had good visuals until he had 20grams of dried mushrooms and he finally broke through and got visuals (aswell as ego loss). I do not reccomend having a dose of mushrooms that large though, that is just a scary amount. But now he has experienced visuals and has no desire ever to take psychedelics again which is fair enough.

For me, a decent dose of LSD contains patterns and sensations intertwined and layered upon one another infinitely in a manner similar to astrological signs and nautical charts. It gets crazy.

Also, if I'm having a hard time there are bugs. Lots of bugs.
