We woke to a perfect Autumn Saturday. After a quick clean of the house, we headed to the shops to stock up on deli nibbles and drinks before our friends arrived at lunchtime. It was a long weekend, with Monday being a public holiday due to ANZAC Day. This weekend is usually special in this part of the pacific as New Zealanders and Australians join to pay their respects to soldiers past. Adam and Sarah arrived and Cotb and I settled in our backyard. A few beers were opened to wash down cheese, crackers and dip and laughs were shared as we made our selves comfortable on hammocks and sofa’s in the sun. It was decided to each have one drop of fresh liquid lsd as we all agreed it was better to be all travelling on the same batch, and after a minty dose we each found a spot to relax and watch the afternoon pass.

Before long the conversations became louder and giggles turned to laughter. Our large grassy backyard felt like a secluded haven despite neighbour’s houses over looking us. We reassured our guests that they could relax, our neighbours are used to strange activities in our garden, and they would probably be surprised that this time we wouldn’t be rolling naked. Speakers were connected to an ipod and our guests tuned in some psytrance to compliment the gentle flow of colours that gradually started to fill our minds. As we wandered around the garden different plants and textures would catch my attention. The sway of a tall banana tree entertained me as Adam climbed into my kids sandpit and played with the digger. I ducked into the kitchen to grab another beer and to my surprise the clock read only 2.05pm, only an hour into our adventure!

Before long Adam broke the golden rule of tripping, do not answer your mobile. After a confusing and emotional chat with his war vet grandfather, I could tell that he was slightly rattled. I gave him a hug and suggested we get out of the house and take a stroll around our neighbourhood. Although Sarah and Adam had lived in this city for several years, neither had spent much time around our pretty suburb. We grabbed a drink for the road and headed towards the river. The modest houses of my street soon changed into beautifully restored mansions and grand riverfront homesteads. Our friends we amazed as we navigated along the river, stopping to view magnificent old buildings and then shake their heads at some of the garish glass and concrete homes. The visuals were not overly intense as we watch a fleet of yachts sail on the water but conversations were convoluted and confusion was high. As we reached a busy shopping strip it suddenly felt uncomfortable being surrounded by the public. The girls in particular began to feel more overwhelmed so we decided to make a beeline to the pub for a toilet stop and to cool off in the air conditioning. We found a sofa in a quiet corner and we each took several deep breaths as waves washed over our over stimulated brains.

Before long our quiet spot was invaded by a large group of revellers. A strange mix of well to do women and gentlemen, dressed like they just stepped out of an English hunting magazine sat down beside us. Tweed jackets, large pearl necklaces, smoking jackets and cravats caused such confusion that we decided it was time to beat a hasty retreat home before we made more of a public scene. As we once again walked down the empty residential back streets it became more and more difficult to concentrate. Within 10 minutes we were back in our garden. It was approaching 4.30pm, close to the peak of our trip as Adam and I built a fire in our fire pit. I reclined the sofa to create a cosy bed with pillows and blankets and we each became mesmerised by the flickering flames as darkness fell.

As I cuddled into my girlfriends warm body I felt at peace. Adam and Sarah shared the hammock while the psychedelic sounds of The Stone Roses filled the air and we all chatted and giggled. The tin roof over head swirled with colours and movement as shadows are cast from the fire. We packed a pipe and enjoyed a cone. Beer no longer sat well in my stomach instead I grabbed a gin and tonic. I was soon aware of a familiar look in my ladies eye. We made our excuse of needing a shower and stumbled into the bathroom. The calming placebo effect of the dark outside was quickly destroyed by the chaotic and cramped shower. The warm water and soft touch of human skin once again caused a rush of insanity as we soaped each others body and kissed. Despite not having a smoke, COTB was convinced she was not tripping as much, yet her scattered mind staggered from tearing at my body, to desperately needing to shave her armpits and legs. A crazy half and hour later and I finally convinced her to get out and come to the bedroom.

Eventually be realised that we had forgotten about our guests. As we sheepishly returned outside and were relieved to find that our friends were just as scattered. It was 8pm and after another smoke we returned inside to watch The Big Lebowski. Our appetites had returned and we ate cheese and proscuitto as we tried to make sense of the movie. By 10pm the subtle movements had subsided and although now stoned we all felt at ease. A valium was washed down with a chicken curry that had been sitting in the slow cooker all day. Fed and now floaty we headed to bed for a well earned sleep.

The next morning I woke at 8.30am feeling surprisingly fresh and at ease with the world. Another stunning day greeted us as we sat in the backyard for breakfast. We all agreed it was one of the most peaceful trips we had experience. It is not easy to experience such a trip with one other person let alone another couple. I feel that our experience has only strengthened our friendship and I look forward to more adventures with them in the years to come.

That sounds like a nice, peaceful trip and an amazing day :).

Its always nice when you trip with people and everyone is on the same wavelength, that's a rare treat.

Sounds like a good time, thanks for sharing. The part about the strangely dressed people in the pub made me chuckle. I imagine it could be quite difficult to not bust out laughing uncontrollably in such a situation.

I think a lot of people overlook the potential of low(ish) dose LSD trips. While not as profound and awe inspiring as an Earth shattering high dose trip, it is still very worthwhile and frankly, more fun. There's no reason LSD shouldn't be used for mere recreational purposes (though there is always the risk getting more than you bargained for with psychedelics). Hanging out with friends, drinking some beers/smoking bowls while having spirited conversations can be a truly awesome experience. I find it fun to watch movies while having a recreational type of trip as well. On my last trip, I watched Speedracer (the 2008 movie), which I found very enjoyable. This film is quite trippy to begin with, the visuals of the movie blended nicely with the visuals from my head.

be safe and have fun.
