Hello. Recently I realized that the simple act of googling my school username or email would bring up google search results full of my trip reports on this site. I love posting here and I had just recently made bluelighter status, but I was forced to undergo the unfortunate task of deleting all posts I had made under my previous alias. I've created this new account under a less conspicuous title, and although I will sadly have to let my other posts be gone forever, I'd like to repost all of my trip reports here, as well as a few new ones. I've got nine in my trip reports folder that I'll be dumping over the next hour or so. One of my reports, titled "Vega-tables" has seemingly gone missing, but I'll post that too if I can find it. Anyway, these will be in chronological order, because thats how they're arranged on my computer. This first one has never been posted before.
Date: September 21, 2008
Time: 1:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Drug: Lysergic acid diethylamide
Dose: 1 Blotter
Location: Pittsburgh
Preparation:
2 hits of plain white blotter acid were procured in Pittsburgh. Held on tongue from 0:00-0:15.
Experience:
T+ 0:00 (1:00 pm) Blotters were placed on tongue.
T+ 0:15 (1:15 pm) Blotters were swallowed, with a light lunch of soup and french fries at the university cafeteria, accompanied by Hardware.
T+ 0:45 (1:45 pm) First effects were felt. Warming in the chest, slightly uncoordinated. We began walking back to the dorms.
T+ 1:15 (2:15 pm) Back at the dorms, we were waiting for Dan to take a shower so that we could go to Phipp’s Conservatory. We discussed some BC Bud he had just purchased, known in this area as “beasters”. Trying to describe the experience to sober friends was proving difficult at this point. We didn’t really know what to expect, but we could feel the effects building. We visited Matt and had a brief conversation - he didn’t know we are tripping until we told him.
T+ 1:30 (2:30 pm) We headed back towards the cafeteria so our friends could eat. The effects were strong at this point, building constantly from a warmth in the pit of my stomach and chest. Colors are significantly more intense, and I spent a good amount of time staring at a friend’s green shirt, and picturing him as an alien. Food tasted amazing, particularly yellow mustard on french fries, something I’m not typically a fan of. As the effects built, my friends seemed like different people: larger beings controlling the fate of their food. After we finish eating, I realize that there’s not much time before Phipp’s closes, and we split into two groups: Alex, Kang, Mandi, and I went to Phipp’s, while the rest went back to the dorms with the intent of meeting up with us later.
T+ 2:00 (3:00 pm) I realize I am having an amazing time. Seriously the most fun I’ve had in a long time. Everything was getting progressively more amazing, and I had a gigantic smile plastered on my face. The body buzz was subtle but very pleasing, the trip was more localized to my head. I saw a woman writing on the ground with sidewalk chalk “Free show and pizza this way --->”, and I considered following the arrow until I realized that Phipp’s closed at 5 pm.
T+ 2:15 (3:15 pm) As Pitt students, we got in free except for Mandi. I was surprised to find that I didn’t have any fear or problems talking to the cashier to get our tickets. The timing worked out perfectly, because we were beginning to peak just as we entered the main room of the conservatory, which is adorned with dangling vines and fragrant plants. I have been to Phipp’s quite a few times now, both after smoking hashish and sober, and no matter how you go the best part is that the air is the cleanest in the city. Walking through the rooms with your mouth open tastes like smoking a hookah with no smoke, and smells warm and delicious. This was especially the case when we were peaking on LSD.
T+ 2:25 (3:25 pm) Out of the front room you can go either left, right, or straight. We ended up going right first, which is the way to my two favorite rooms, so I was quite happy about this. After you exit the main room to the right you enter a long hallway, which is supposed to be a “chocolate spa” (Phipp’s is showcasing its new “chocolate exhibit”). The spa is basically a long thin body of water, inhabited by plastic flamingos for some reason, and surrounded by flowers. Two pillars ooze smoke, attempting to look like a sauna. The whole thing is a little bit cheesy, but the smoke wafting off of the pillars was particularly beautiful in the light coming in through the windows. From this hallway we first went to the cactus room. We noticed how all the spiniest, ugliest plants came from Madagascar, and how none of us ever wanted to go there. Mandi was really concerned that I was going to touch the cacti, which I did without any problems. After looping around the cactus room we ended up in the room that splits off into my two favorite rooms. First we went to the victorian courtyard, which is something straight out of Alice in Wonderland. Beautiful multicolor flowers form a hedge pattern that resembles two fleur-de-lines, and there are religious statues in little vine covered enclaves. The first time I saw this room I was on hashish and grapefruit haze, and I thought it was the inner room of a french cloister. Absolutely beautiful. After letting that room soak in, we went next door to the “chocolate room”, which consists of a lot of reds and browns. It was here that I first sort of realized how hard I was tripping, as I looked at a beautiful red and yellow coleus leaf. It was so bright and ridiculous, and sort of pulsating a little bit. Next to it was a bright red and yellow flower from another plant, that was so perfect I had a hard time believing it was real. We headed back to the main room, and went left this time. This brought us to the fern room, which in turn leads to both the orchid room and the butterfly room. Alex and Kang went to the orchid room while Mandi and I went into the butterfly room. The first thing we happened upon was a monarch butterfly feeding on a small bundle of flowers with its proboscis. It was stunning in all its intricacy and color. The way the room was laid out was as more of a set path that you go one way on than a room that you can wander around, so we continued along the path over a bridge, where we saw another amazing light-orange butterfly. We continued on to a box that housed chrysalises, and we reflected on the life cycle of butterflies as we watched some fan out their wings for the first time. We continued along the path until we came to spot where the sunlight came in through the window between 2 large shrubs and some smaller plants, and highlighted the fact that the area was crawling with butterflies. They flitted about in the sunlight and rested on puffy pink flowers that looked like the tiny world from Horton Hears a Who. We met up with Kang and Alex as we were leaving the butterfly room, and decided to go through again with them. As Alex and Kang enjoyed the sights for the first time, Mandi and I enjoyed the sound, which was calm jazz music. We danced through the butterfly garden, having a fantastic time.
T+ 3:00 (4:00 pm) After we exited the second time, we met up with Dan and Matt, and decided to go through a third time, dancing all the way. After that we went to the orchid room, which were particularly stimulating. The more tropical orchids were adorned with psychedelic patterns and colors, which appeared to be extra amazing while under the influence of LSD. Then we went back to the main room, and went straight into the chocolate cake room, where a big chocolate cake is prominently displayed in a garden. From here we went to the Thailand exhibit, a recreation of a Thai jungle. The air was thick and moist, and we sat down on a bench. This is when I realized that when I closed my eyes, I saw just as many flowers as I did when they were open. They started as little specks of color and grew into beautiful smears of different colors. Mandi told me that flexing her toes felt amazing, so I tried it and found it extremely satisfying. We went down to the fish tank and sat down to watch the fish. After sitting there for a while they all stopped at once and seemed to be looking at us. I wondered if all of the human world was created by fish as a type of reverse aquarium.
T+ 3:30 (4:30 pm) We realized we had a half hour left, so we went to the tropical fruits and spices room, with the intent of eventually going to see the venus flytraps outside. On the way we got sidetracked by smelling some ground up chocolate, cinnamon, and vanilla that they had ground up and put in jars. They smelled amazing, and by the time we got to the fruits room we had 5 minutes before close, and the gate to outside was closed. We looked at the fruit, and picked a “purple strawberry guava” to eat later. We left the conservatory, got our complimentary chocolate at the last minute, and headed across the street to Schenley park.
T+ 4:00 (5:00 pm) We sat on the hill at Schenley park for another half hour or so, watching a group of people flying kite and talking. Eventually we heard the sound of drums and began wandering towards them, and we found a drum circle deeper into the park. Dan started dancing, and he looked ridiculous. Then we went to a restaurant to meet up with our friend Sam and her father. Eventually Mandi began to feel strange, and we realized it was because the basement of the restaurant was a really dark and scary place. Eventually we left and ended our day back in the dorms.
