Hey guys
I was wondering at what dose of bupe you have to worry about getting precip withdrawals ifnu don't wait long enough after dosing a full agonist. I've been maintaining on hydromorphone for a while now and am switching back to bupe today. I took my last dose of hydromorphone this morning and am starting to feel a little WD. I only plan on taking 0.5mg and am wondering if I have to worry about precip withdrawal at this low dose. Call stories I've heard of precip withdrawal are at doses of at least 4mg. I'm wondering if anyone has gotten withdrawal from low doses around what I'm talking about or will precip withdrawal not occur unless u get to higher doses. Thanks

I don't really think it matters what dose, last time I got precipitated withdrawals I took only like 1-2mg bupe because I thought that little wouldn't cause it. I was very wrong. This was about 8 hours after taking morphine. I have no real idea how long you need to wait, but it's better to be certain because precipitated withdrawals really suck.

They had a 24 hour waiting period as a general rule before you got any buprenorphine in detox last time I was there.

if i don't wait 24 hours any dose of bupe puts me into pwd

Really?? I was under the impression that bupe will not cause precipitate WD when taken below a certain dose, no matter how soon you take it after a full agonist. In fact I'm aware of some people in pan management who are prescribed a small daily dose (about .5mg) everyday along with their full agonist that they maintain on.

Again, all reports I've seen in the past of precip WD involve people taking at least a few mg of bupe. I was under the impression that at doses below 1mg or so u are actually likely to get some synergistic effects and no concern of WD at all. Am I wrong about this. Are there people who have gone thru WD from taking less than 1mg?

I just inducted myself on bupe the other day, after waiting approximately 15-16 hours, and while I didn't experience precipitated withdrawal, I didn't get much relief, either. I took a small dose, with the same fears you have, around .5mg, and it didn't do much...so about an hour later, I took another 1mg, still worried that maybe by taking more, I would THEN throw myself into PWD, but it didn't, but still didn't give much relief...I continued this process, dosing about 1mg every hour or two, all day, consuming about 8mgs in a 24 hours period. The following morning, yesterday, I took about 2mg after I woke up, and felt about 75% for the day...I dosed about 2mg two more times, throughout the day, and by night time, I wasn't feeling great, but at least fairly 'normal'...although with using opiates so much of my life, I kind of forget what "normal" even feels like...it's either I'm high, withdrawing, getting over withdrawals and wanting to use, etc.

For the sake of not making a new thread, but also not really wanting to highjack yours, I just wanna ask a quick question here for myself. After doing all of what I just stated, I ended up getting more dope...so I have 1 gram of H, and have been smoking for about an hour...roughly .4 probably. I don't feel high, necessarily, but it did take away my achy legs and make me feel a little bit "better". Now, though, I'm wondering about when I go back to sub...do I have to wait til I'm in withdrawal again? Or since I already have so much bupe in me, can I just start taking it whenever, without having to worry about precipitated WDs?

Ideally, you would wait another 24 hours, but I realize that isn't always realistic.

If you are not getting much effect out of the heroin, then chances are that a majority of the dope got blocked from attaching to the receptors and is instead just swimming around in your system waiting to be expelled. This is good news because it means that your body's receptors are mostly occupied by buprenorphine at this point, which should mean that you could dose some more sub without experiencing precipitated withdrawal. However, this is just a guess based on logic and some of my own personal experiences, it does not mean that you'll necessarily have an easy transition back.

This is what I was thinking, just couldn't quite put it in words like you did, but you hit it spot on. I figure that since I'm not getting much effect from the heroin, (smoked over a half gram in about 45 minutes, and nothing...) that I should be safe to just dose my sub either tonight or in the AM, (whenever the dope runs out), with no adverse effects... (precipitated wd)

Yeah, that has been my experience. When I was on suboxone, I almost never had a problem replacing a dose of sub (I would split my dose in half, always, one in the evening, one in the morning) with a full agonist like heroin, oxycodone, Opana, etc.. I could take my next dose of suboxone around eight hours later and feel no different than had I previously dosed Bupe instead of heroin.

The point at which I would really run into problems would be (and now this varies mind you on the amount of suboxone one takes for maintenance) if I continually used heroin for 48-72 hours straight. By this point I would be feeling the full effects of the heroin (or as full as they can be with dulled out receptors caused by daily suboxone dosing) and entering withdrawal six to eight hours past my last shot. The longer I stayed on the heroin, the more difficult switching back to suboxone would be. So the moral of this experience is to keep your little dope excursion to a minimum.

i recommend taking very small doses, say .25 or .5mg, wait an hour or two... see how you feel, and you should, in theory, completely avoid it... its when you knock all those other weak binders off all at once that you do the PW
