Low Carb Dieting and cutting carbs out. Help?

low carb absolutely works and did not raise my cholesterol it is hard to stick with it in the long run and as with any diet if you quit you will gain but it works and is safe, conversly if you follow the fda food pyrimid you will gain weight for sure.if you want something long term and healthy eat only whole foods (NOTHING PROCESSED)

Whole foods really are the way to go. I would say if somebody really needs a strictly regimented plan, sticking to only whole foods would be an excellent diet.

The FDA food pyramid is biased toward carbohydrates. It also should be setting limits on sugar and simple carbs, as well as saturated fats. Unfortunately the food industry won't allow that to happen. On the other hand, it does make good recomendations on fruits and veggies.

It's true about the cholesteral thing too. My co-worker went all out on atkins recently. I mean SERIOUS saturated fat over load. Full fat bacon, sausage, anything and everything fried, butter and cream on everything. . . .just everything you could imagine. His cholesterol stayed exactly the same after six months of this! That's just anecdotal evidence though.

That doesn't mean atkins is healthy though. Cholesterol is not the only indicator of health. For one thing, all that protein is bad for your kidneys. Anybody doing a high protein diet should remember to drink an absolute minimum of a gallon of water a day to help the kidneys process all that protein!

Amen to that, newskin! Coke and Yum! Brands are too busy naming football fields in American schools and underwriting lots of other unhealthy things as well...
But, in a related story, in order of resolution:

Wait.. don't carbohydrates give you energy needed to live?

That statement is misleading and a gross over-simplification.
