lorazepam and prozac and extended use of ativan

Hello, I have recently started taking Prozac for sever depression, for about less than a month. For about 4-5 months, however, I've had a terrible time sleeping, staring at the clock all night and feeling like absolute shit in the morning. Think like really tired, but can't sleep to resolve it. I saw a doctor at a clinic and told her about my bedtime problems and anxiety and she prescribed ativan 1 mg for ten days, with one refill. I am wondering if there is an interaction between prozac and ativan and if it is advisable for long term use. My sleeping has greatly improved and I am actually getting rest for the first time in a while. Also, I am worried about if I am not allowed to continue its use (1mg/day at night) that I might face a bad WD and won't be able to sleep again. Is it likely that my doctor will allow me to keep using my lorazepam and does being prescribed the things I have help towards building a medical/prescirption history that will make it more likely for me to get the lorazepam/whatever I need easier? To clarify, I do not use the lorazepam or prozac (which you can't even really abuse anyway) recreationally, but rather the prozac for depression obviously, and the lorazepam for sleep and anxiety. Thanks

You dont want to develop a reliance on benzodiazepines. They work very well for a few days or even a few weeks. But you have to take more and more over extended periods of time to get the same effects. And there are some pretty horrible side effects when you take large doses regularly. Then when you start trying to get off them the withdrawals are hell. Do yourself a favor and use lorazepam sparingly.

There shouldn't be any interactions between the loraz and prozac, don't worry about that. What AfterG said though, benzos are bad for long-term sleep problems because eventually, you're gonna have to stop using them, and when you do your insomnia is gonna be a hell of a lot worse, as well as having a bunch of other discontinuation-related problems.

Have you tried using supplements like melatonin?
