ory depression...

I've been taking xanax 2mg for two years for GAD and think it might be causing more problems than fixing. I've been on valium and librium and they work great for GAD much better than xanax, especially the valium. The problem is though when I take them I can't exercise, my breathing goes to shit, i get depressed, I never experience this on xanax. I'm considering switching to Klonopin, is this going to cause the same problems?

alright, your just looking ot switch i assume. id honestly go with the diazepam. find a dose that makes you comfortable. but in all honesty the benzo thats the most clear and allows your to function daily is valium. dont switch to kpins. they IMHO kpins are more sedating than your looking for. id say like 20-30mg diazepam a day would make you feel a lot better man.

good luck, benzos are a motherfucker.

If you're looking for one that does not cause muscle relaxation, do NOT go with DIAZEPAM, since it is notorious for its muscle relaxant properties. I currently take Lorazepam (Ativan) and Clonazepam (Klonopin) for general anxiety. I also have 2 herniated spinal discs and subsequently suffer from very stiff back muscles. Only this morning have I been taken off of Lorazepam and Clonazepam and put on Diazepam, specifically because of its stronger muscle-relaxant properties.

Also, do not confuse a benzodiazepine's half-life for it's duration of action, as most users (and sometimes clinicians) often do.

You can try Lorazepam, but at an equipotent dose, it is much more sedating than Diazepam. So Clonazepam may be a better shout.

That said, everybody reacts differently, and it might just be a case of trial and error. But Diazepam is notorious for its muscle-relaxant properties.

Ya, I found valium to make me feel deppressed and it does really relax the muscles, and make ya tired. It's different for everybody, but I would suggest Klonopin. It doesn't seem to make me feel as 'dopey' and is the same strength as xanax, but with a longer half life. Honestly I never found it to relax my muceles even tho they say it has those properties.

sadly i have yet to find a benzo that doesnt slow me down and take away from physical performance..ive tried, xanax, valium, etizolam, ativan..

i think this is a very individual thing.. talk to your doc, try out different ones and see what works best for you. personally i'd stay on the valium but it does have those muscle relaxant properties to it so in your case klonopin might actually be better. only thing i would NOT do is go back to xanax because it's just the type of benzo that ends up causing some people more problems if anything
