Looking for scary movies......

Not scary, but a top low budget film is the Omega Diary. Filmed for next to nothing and a good representation of what paranoid people are capable of doing to eachother, good psychological insight.

Clownhouse was pretty creepy. Satan's Little Helper is a creepy, funny, warped little movie. And I remember seeing a movie called Funny Games a few years ago. I also remember it not being funny so much as a fucked up German thriller.

this is a great choice. it is scary in that it's people doing this and it could possibly happen. I swear there isn't one living in a post-apocalyptic world horror film I don't like.

I have been scared by only a few films in my entire life , including childhood, I am hard to scare and I recommend

AUDITION

Suicide Club

CLOSE YOUR EYES ( not great , but very compelling )

RAVENOUS -- funny, exciting , and scarey . eat a steak while you watch it --I did !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vanilla Sky

TIME OUT an unforgettable French film ... a mere DRAMA ... which is so fucking weird it almost qualifies as scarey ( if you see it and you dig it , PM me !)

and finally :

any home movie anyone has ever shot
which has ME in it.
THAT will scare you so much
it will dump your adrenal glands dry .

also agreeing with chemical companion about FUNNY GAMES I love that film it is a MINDFUCK . Think I need to own it now actually . thanks chemical !

Uzumaki (Spiral). Not scary, but has the haunting atmosphere of a particularly dark acid trip (and benifits greatly from "enhanced viewing"). The horror is metaphysical and is unprecedented by anything I've seen. The comedy is loopy though; a deal breaker if you can't handle the absurd, but enjoyable otherwise.

Tetsuo (The Iron Man)
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (the movie)
Collected Shorts of Jan Svankmejer (e.g. Fall of the House of Usher, Down to the Cellar)

All lesser-known dark mind-fucks

This is one of the more fucked up horror films I have in my collection : (and it takes a LOT for me to get scared)

A troubled police detective Huang Huo-tu suffers from a severe mental breakdown as his life is falling apart. He is relegated to a mundane job as a Foreign Affairs Officer as a payback for blowing the whistle on corruption in the force. His young daughter is suffering from the fallout of being held hostage in a police crossfire. His fellow colleagues have turned on him and his wife Ching-fang is filing for divorce.

Suddenly, a series of bizarre deaths in Taiwan baffle local investigators. An American FBI agent Kevin Richter is called in to solve the murders. He is the topmost serial killer expert in the field, but even he cannot explain the seemingly supernatural circumstances surrounding the crime scenes. For example, in one case a businessman froze to death in his office - in the middle of a heatwave; the mistress of a prominent official calls the fire department and is later found burned to death - with no sign of fire in her apartment. Richter partners with Huang who has less trouble believing that something supernatural is behind them, and on that angle he persuades him to investigate a local cult. They discover increasingly disturbing evidence that there are possible demonic forces at work.
