Iboga is a bit more of a known quantity than a 'green goo', but as far as I know there have been no large scale medical trials showing it's efficiacy as a substance that can help 'cure' addiction (if I'm wrong please link me!). This is not necessarily a reflection on whether it actually is due to the nature of the substance and all the issues surrounding it, but it leaves a big question mark hanging.
I know people that have taken it, and people who have at some point been quite involved with the iboga taking community and even among them there's a lot of disillusionment as they see people relapse and use again just the same as always. Most have been owerwhelmingly positive about it's effects on the physical process of detox though.
Either way, it still wouldn't be something I would personally consider for a first time detox. I just don't think it makes sense introducing relatively unstudied strong psychedelics in to someone's life-with all the issues that could entail-before having a good crack at a more traditional route. /opinion
