Misc looking for harmless stimulant for weekdays

ok, well i have used it off and on for several years. It provides me with enough focus thats better than taking 20mg of extended-release adderall. The energy is much smoother without any jitters whatsoever. Don't knock it will you try it. I'm a member of several different entheogen forums and this herb is really gaining popularity recently especially among the kratom crowd.

Yeah don't take amps or ritalin daily, you will be fucked up medium-long term. And a doctor might even try to give you that! Caffeine is definitely the best option. Prescribed you could try modafinil, although that might have long-term consequences as well, but not nearly as bad as amphetamines or methylphenidate.

Sounds like you've got narcolepsy to be honest, one of my better friends had nearly the exact same presentation as you. Very low dose amphetamine and MPH have been proven safe and effective in the long term so I really don't know where the hate comes from. However, seeing as people generally chase a high with them there is the definite probably of burnout with that sort of usage pattern.

Talk to your doctor about these microsleeps and see what happens, be sure to mention the don't effect your driving.
Best,
EA

dont self medicate, dont self diagnose

Yup, and always take the lowest effective dose of a medication. Lower doses means slower development of tolerance and dependence, and less euphoria (leading to less addiction).

Just because your doctor prescribes you with 30-60mg daily amphetamine for your ADD, narcolepsy, etc., doesn't mean you have to follow those directions on the bottle.

extended release style caffeine (as opposed to coffee or energy drinks, try some good hojicha style green tea), B-12 or 100 complex, piracetam (or whatever racetam you like) and good nights of sleep

And actually sweets are a really good idea too! But don't get processed sweet shit (like 99.99% of candy and soda etc. etc. out there). Eat good fruits with fiber so that you slowly digest your sugars and get the most out of them. Waaaaay better for you in terms of long term alertness and stimulation and the quick sugar rush of a candy bar or soda. This is why you'll always find melons in my fridge ;)

:)

And hey, a simple suggestion never heart anyone! I mean, obviously it's on the user who decides to try/take such into consideration, but still, it's nothing more than a suggestion. (I take no stance on it, as I don't like medicine, I like shamanism =D.)

I'm going to have to agree with Miss Kirsty and Epsilon Alpha - if you feel like you're not as energetic as you once were/should be, there maybe some underlying condition which needs to be looked at - drugs aren't an answer, all they would do is basically mast what is really going on.

dont self medicate, dont self diagnose

Well fuck me! For the many years I've been on BL this has got to be some of the absolute, best advice I've seen posted! Well done mate!!!

Vitamins and antioxidants are the only 'harmless' stimulants......

Try again. Along with things such as pro/pre-biotics and energy drinks which "replenish lost electrolytes", unless you are (clinically diagnosed) deficient, as best you could call them expensive pee! :\

Try yerba mate. Buy the loose leaf and a bombilla, which is a straw with a screen/filter. You're then able to make it mild or strong, and it can be quite a potent stimulant. It's also a mild MAO inhibitor. I drink it when I need to be extremely productive. Also, it contains all the usual green tea antioxidants and such, so it's good for you too.

YES! if you want a simulation that seems very easy on your body and mind (especially compared in terms of it's appetite suppressant effects to amps), mate is an AMAZING tea/drug/drink. National drink of Argentina, no? I used to drink a pot of this at least once a day every day for years...

Use a tea pot to get the water boiling and then set aside. Using the bombilla - pronounced "bomb-bee-zja" - and gourd are pretty essential to getting what you want out of this drug/tea. Fill gourd 2/3 with whatever mate you have. My fav tea brand is the red Cruz de Malta w/ stems removed, but frankly any loose leaf mate will do (online it's reasonably priced, most non-Argentinian or ethnic food stores and places like whole foods tend to way overcharge). Poor in h2o, which should be at a temp that is hot to the touch but not near boiling. Put in bombilla, taste for temp, and slurp away. Refill with more hot water from the teapot until empty, you're no longer thirsty or you're tweaking sufficiently from the tea. Mmmmmmm so good!

Pre-mixed mate bottled beverages or pre-made mate tea bad for use in normal cups are NOTHING like mate as it should be enjoyed.

That is, with loose leaf, a bombilla and gourd. you can even design your own gourd with beads and glitter and shit ;)

I can't believe I didn't think of this... I lived on mate, cigs, bananas, rice, beans, wine and heroin throughout almost all college and law school... Mate's also pretty cheap, even including the gourd and bombilla...

I miss Argentina :(

Not to mention.....

The three xanthines present in mate have been shown to have a relaxing effect on smooth muscle tissue, and a stimulating effect on myocardial (heart) tissue.

So not only will give you tachycardia but give ya a loose sphincter. ;)

An overload of ions....

Mate also contains elements such as potassium, magnesium and manganese.

Effects in causing deficiencies in lipid metabolism and cancer.....

Mate consumption is associated with oral cancer[13] esophagus cancer, cancer of the larynx,[14] and squamous cell of the head and neck

To name a few additional "benefits" ;) :P

While the epidemiological data indicate that maté users have an increased risk of oral and oro-pharyngeal cancer, little is known about whether this increased risk is due to the high temperature of the beverage when it is consumed or due to certain carcinogenic constituents that are present in maté.

However, there is no sound population-based case-control study on mate consumption as a risk factor for cancer. This, coupled with the range of results on mate risk, make assessing the etiological fraction difficult. More research needs to be done before a definitive statement can be made regarding cancer risk associated with any of the various forms of mate consumption.

There is limited evidence for the carcinogenicity of hot mate drinking in humans. No data were available on the drinking of cold mate. ...There are no data on the carcinogenicity of mate in experimental animals. ...Mate is not classifiable as to its carcinogenicity to humans (Group 3). ...Hot mate drinking is probably carcinogenic to humans (Group 2A).

Well, obviously as someone who smokes, I'm not too overly concerned with cancer from drinking mate... but for your average person, I can't imagine mate is any more dangerous than sugar (which, in its own ways, is toxic).

LOL, still good to point out. Devils advocates are never such a bad thing... But I just couldn't help, as an avid mate fan and someone who has gotten a lot that is positive from my use, well, yea ;)

I'll letcha all know when/if I get cancer :\ :p

You do make a point- Of course there are going to be risks and adverse side efffects from any stimulant. Yerba mate is fairly benign compared to the the other options. Amphetamine is IMO the superior stimulant for increasing productivity during a workweek, but they carry a much more serious and defined risk profile. And any stimulant is going to induce tachycardia and hypertension to some degree, which is something to keep in mind if you have pre-existing [heart] conditions.

A wikipedia insert linking mate to cancer... tenuous;)

Yerba mate is essntially a caffeine cocktail that works really well for most people while being affordable too.

For all I know the correlation to cancer comes from drinking hot beverages - whether it's tea, coffee, or mate, if you drink boiling water it increases your risk of oral cancer.
