Excellent posts. Socio! Thanks for all the great info you're putting out there for BL folks and the OP. This exact question (transferring from done to subs) has been on my mind in the last few weeks, so I thank you again for being so helpful!
Migoda, psychologically you're in a good place to start your taper. And don't worry about taking too much done today. I do that too sometimes. Just get back on track and stay positive and focussed on your goal. BTW, I'm on 30mg methadone a day, except when I cheat occasionally.
There are a couple of viable solutions to your problem already offered in this thread. I just wanted to add my own opinion so you can get as much info as possible. Like stuckinaloop, I find it easiest to switch to a short-acting opiate before tapering off. I would do the same if I switched to bupe. Of course this would be wisest after you've tapered down to about 30mg of done a day.
I've used oxycodone 5mg (Percocet) and hydrocodone 10 or 5mg (Norcos or Vicodin), and I found that all of them work, but I prefer the hydro 5mg b/c it's so subtle. So hydro is my suggestion. Just remember never to get high on your taper. In your case, you'd just be switching to bupe in a few days so that wouldn't be a problem.
You can definitely do this and if you plan it right, you can do it with minimal pain, ie. suffer a bit longer in w/d before transitioning on to bupe so that you can avoid the hell of precipitated w/d.
Good luck and keep us informed!
