Hey,
Been lurking here a long time. I’m a Dr in Cell Biology, graduated from University of Cambridge but fell pretty ill with lupus and tumors developing across my body. Pain clinic put me on oxycodone because I don’t metabolise codeine or tramadol and I’m allergic to patches (kekw), turned into 12 years on oxycodone, oxymorphone, hydromorphone, hydrocodone and even fentanyl.
Once my tolerance outpaced what they were willing to adjust me to (600mg daily oxycodone), fell into heroin because understandably the withdrawals on 600mg daily for over a decade are severe to say the least. Started injecting H, managed to harm reduction myself into snorting only but still was going through 3-7g daily at peak, most of which was allegedly very pure from source (won’t make too many comments on this here).
Anyway, I’ve managed to stop Heroin and Oxy over the past few months. 1 month clean of H and 2 months clean of Oxy. Horrific withdrawals incase anyone was wondering. Originally stopped the insane H usage by using as much Oxy as needed and then reducing from there. If anyone’s curious, it was about 700-900mg of oxy daily to avoid symptoms for the first week.
Point of posting is to mostly say hi but also hear from others white knuckling sobriety on how to make this feel better? Still firmly stuck in the “I want to float away and not feel” cravings a few times a day. Chronic pain is definitely in a bad spot too plus I struggle with bipolar disorder so my dopamine addiction has always been bad. I can’t use alternatives because I’m being drug tested lmao, ridiculous but is what it is. Proud of me for getting this far. I’ve been taking some OTC codeine and CWE so I’m using about 300mg of codeine daily but as I have CYP differences, not sure I’m even metabolising 50% of this. (Have very low 2D6 and 3C9). Tomorrow I am taking that away too.
I am very curious to hear from others that have gone through this successfully and I mean, if you haven’t, that’s okay too. Sometimes it’s nice to just speak your story into the wind.
Thanks for reading friends.
