Hello All,

I've been reading threads on this site for 7-8 years now but never created an account because I didn't feel as if I had anything significant to share. Well, over the past two weeks that has changed. After all this time I've found a way to detox from opiates relatively painlessly. In short - the solution was a drug called Baclofen. I'll be posting more info/details regarding my experience shortly (hopefully on my lunch break).

Hi there, pants, welcome to BL. :)

That all sounds great, albeit outwith my own experience. I'm sure you can find plenty of discussion on the subject of Baclofen on our other subforums.

Can't believe you lurked for so long without signing up!!!

Interesting concept, I'm looking forward to your viewpoints because a friend of mine who has no script and is spending a lot of money wants to quit and I happen to have a bottle of 60 some Bac's. I didn't like them and went back to Soma's for a muscle relaxer. She's raising two kids on her own and is always broke which isn't fair to the children who really want to see there mom in a better light. This could be a Godsend so I hope this info pans out. On a side note it will save me a lot of money that I give to her for food which I feel I shouldn't knowing she uses the food card for others to get Roxi's.

Ok well let me give you the basics so you can help your friend out. Just to give you some background, at the end of my opiate use, I was smoking the gel from one 100mcg fentanyl patch per day (then chewing the plastic to squeeze whatever bit of that foul drug out that I possibly could). I say this just to emphasize that my tolerance was considerably high. I had been trying to quit for at least 5 years. I had made it through the acute withdrawals numerous times but always went back. I was at the point now where the withdrawal was so bad, I just could not deal with it. I'd make it maybe 24 before i broke down and scored some fent. It was a shitty cycle that I desperately needed to get out of.

So, I happened to read several peoples experiences using baclofen (a muscle relaxer that unlike others, acts on GABA receptors) to not only help with withdrawal, but also with cravings. A friend of mine has a script so I figured id give it a shot. I got a bottle of about 60 baclofen pill (20mgs). I had a few percs left over and I took them with my first dose of baclofen (1 20mg pill). I took the percs as I was already feeling some fierce withdrawal and I wanted to just get rid of any opiates I had available to me. Anyway with my habit, those percs would have barely made me feel normal for a couple hours but as time went on, my withdrawal didn't return. I took a total of 3 20mg baclofen the first day and just waited for the withdrawal that never came. Over the next 4 days I took a total of 4 20mg baclofen each day. And I swear I am not bullshitting you when I say it took away AT LEAST 95% OF MY WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS!! And I'm talking the worst symptoms - RLS, Insomnia, restlessness, depression, lethargy etc. I'm telling you on my second day in "withdrawal" I worked a 9 hour day and spent 3 hours in class and opiates or the pain of withdrawal didn't cross my mind even once!

Anyway, its been two weeks now and I've been off of the baclofen for 7 days now. Baclofen has been a godsend and has truly saved my life! I have kept some baclofen on hand and I've noticed when I'm really craving that opiate high, just one baclofen takes away my desire to seeks out painkillers.

I should also mention that the baclofen has not given me any type of high whatsoever. Its just calms my mind and gives me this odd mental clarity that I haven't experienced since before I started ruining my life with fentanyl.

I urge anyone who is trying to get off opiates to give baclofen a try. Please report back and let me know if you've had success with it as well.

P.S. I'm typing this on my phone and I just worked a 13 hour day so I apologize for any spelling/grammar/stream of consciousness errors. :)

I should also note that for some reason I usually don't experience extreme nausea when withdrawing (its happened to me only twice out of the 40 + times I've detoxed). So, I can't say for sure if the baclofen will help with that aspect of it. But... I'd imagine that even a fierce stomach bug would be far easier to deal with without the myriad other problems we all experience while in withdrawal

Shadowsblaze - repot back and let me know id this works for your friend

Felix - thanks for the welcome! I've learned a lot throughout my addiction and I hope I'll be able to help out some people out here on blue light.

Hey bro, not the best response from my friend. I told her what you stated and she wasn't open minded on the subject. She had just purchased 40 15mg. Roxi's and said in so many words that maybe later. She called an hour after that and ripped into me for what I wrote about her behavior saying that she cares for her kid's, etc. I told her that her mother was taking care of her as well as her kids and if not for that she would be on the street. She hung up on me but called back and said she was sorry and I told her when she was ready she could have the Bacs. She then asked for them and asked if they were any good. Needless to say I told her I'd give them to her at another time when she was committed to her problem. She is gonna be pissed when she reads this but J you know it's the truth.

Sorry to hear that :( I guess the one other thing you'll need is the desire to quit and the motivation to make it happen. Those are two things I've luckily had no shortage of for several years now but, it took hitting rock bottom for that to happen.
