Hey there my(new) peers!

After lurking about on BL for years I've finally joined the community hoping to help share some of the burden of harm reduction and engage in some intelligent conversations. I've made the decision that I won't sit on the sidelines any longer at such a critical time for healthcare, especially behavioral healthcare in my native United States. Instead of dreading losing my healthcare that covers my BP/PTSD meds as well as my opioid addiction services that make the difference between stability (relatively at least haha) and possible death or more downtime in my lovely state's vast prison system. I don't want this to be construed as my street-cred-dope-wrapsheet or anything like that at all, but I will briefly share some bullet points from my journey up to this very moment...

I'll be turning 30 very soon, I have an AA in communications but have been unable to use it bc of chronic instability stemming from long-term opioid & heroin addiction that I used to self medicate to treat my underlying bipolar symptoms that came out in my early-mid 20s(was diagnosed depressed at 14). In ~2005 I graduated from using oxy/hydrocodone regularly for recreation through my teens, to oxycontin(OC not OP) & opana when I got a serious neck injury from an accident snowboarding. As you can guess it was the typical long-term downward spiral over the next 10yrs as my painkillers turned into piles of cash that I used to build myself up a super "cheap" but massive heroin problem while I lived in my native state of Colorado. Homelessness at times, violence, suicide, 1001 hustles, warrants+charges, enough hotel rooms for 20 lifetimes haha, easy money, tough breaks, you know typical hell on earth that most addicts live through... Or don't. June 26th of this year will be my 2yr clean date, longest of my young life after IVing daily for the previous decade. I'm hoping to use the gift of stability that I have right meow to advocate online (as I always have in-person) the proven benefit of harm reduction through accurate information. (Side note: I was very into the rave/club/festival scene in my younger years and was a longtime reagent tester & contributor on a different forum/database focused on harm reduction in that scene) I'm actively campaigning for keeping the ACA & CARA (Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act) even though as a felon I can't vote just now. Everyday at least 129 people in the United States die from a drug overdose. We not only can do better but we really can't afford not to...

Anyway *steps down*, I'm done w/ that soapbox. Just thought I'd put a brief history out there and say hello. I'm excited to join the community ^_^ Feel free to comment, message, or troll me if you'd like!

Ohhh PS: if you'd like to take a moment and sign the petition to continue funding CARA, this is a great way to send ALL of your area reps a letter automatically @ no cost! https://secure3.convio.net/dfk/site...n&id=137&_ga=1.26023229.1896257974.1465869069
