Long term side effects of ecstasy

I’m really new to this so I don’t know how this goes.

basically, my boyfriend has been working as a dj for the past 10 or so years. He started doing ecstasy and ketamine in his early twenties (he’s currently 31). But lately he’s been heavily “addicted”? I would say. He’ll go to a friends house for 3-4 days at a time and continuously do it, so maybe approximately 10 pills+ a week?

At first I didn’t notice any major side effects or anything, but now I am. He barely sleeps anymore, he struggles to fall and stay asleep at night for more than 3 hours. When he does sleep, he has extreme jerking motions throughout his entire body that keep me awake. Also, he’s become very short tempered and has troubles dealing with his emotions, its almost like he has a switch that just flips when someone says or does something he doesn’t like. I’m just really wondering if it could be the longterm effects of doing all those drugs for all those years. And if yes, whats the best way to deal with it?

If anybody has any idea, i would really appreciate it.

Yup serotonin deficiency’s/damage manifest exactly as you describe. There’s only one way to make this stop and that’s for HIM to stop.

My brother went through the exact same thing. When you use at this level there is permanent damage which takes place, it’ll take months possibly up to a year for him to get some feeling of normalcy again.

MDMA is the one drug you never abuse like this cuz the damage which can be done is nastier than a lot others out there. Used responsibly it’s beautiful but for some that can be hard. It’s a hard drug not because it’s addictive or makes you do bad things, it’s because if abused it can leave one with permanent problems.

I honestly suggest you give him an ultimatum if you feel this is something you don’t want to deal with in a relationship. It probably won’t work but it might..

i use to take big doses when I was younger and did a few with meth i beleve in them unknowing at the time, it's been years and my nerves never fully recovered there not to bad but not 100% either

Attacking your serotonin system with continuous E abuse may manifest with increased anxiety, depression, general moodiness. It is neurotoxic but the brain has ways of coping with even severe damage.

I dont feel the same after almost 10 years of mdma use. I'm a More anxious, emotional, explosive person than i was before. Although ive learned to cope with it.

How ya doing since you kicked the morphine? I got 3 maths opiate free. It was all started 20yrs ago after heavy mdma abuse. I want more time completely clean.

Pretty good.. A bit bored an anhedonia. I'm having trouble filling fulfilled but I attribute that mostly to the lockdown. Running out of cheap novel experiences to keep me occupied around the house.

Always good when it's a choice. The great and bad thing about freeing oneself from addiction is the infinite choices. We no longer have to be slaves.

You gotta take about a year break, then be serious with it if you choose to use again. Also use vitamin and mineral supplements and maybe even nootropics on a refular basis, to protect your brain!

Honestly, as a past meth user, this sounds very characteristic of meth abuse to me. Not often do people spend days on E, but days on meth? Easily, time gets lost and the jerking / mood swings and multi day usage is very characteristic. Also, if he is unknowingly just binging on MDMA cut with speed, that's also a possible explanation.

Whatever you do, just be gentle in your approach and express some concern for his well being. It may be well received or he may get defensive, but IME, this does sound very much like stim addiction. Even if it is truly just an MDMA affliction / chemical love affair (Dude just LOVES rolling), it sounds like the kind of frequency and duration he's getting himself into is going to be harmful nomatter what it is, or which way you slice the issue.

If you'd like some literature on the topic, read this.

Just understanding the physiology of the issues that can manifest may be enough to deter some people from rampant use. And even knowing, some people don't care. It's in his court if he knows what he's getting himself into.
