long term health-risks of frequent low dose (half a pill) of E vs alcohol binge

I love partying and going out - Up till around a year ago, I only used to drink alcohol, and some nights binge-drink alcohol. About a year ago I tried E for the first time, and as most people really enjoyed the feeling. From them, I've been using it more regularly but I've always kept the amount low, most of the times half a pill during one night, and without re-topping up at any time. I only normally require the slight 'buzz' it gives you, and half a pill has been doing it enough for me for the past year. I still take some alcohol as well. Comedown's after last very little or none at all.

I know i'm not doing my body in general good, but I want to try to know how *much* bad I am doing. I go out every weekend. If I were to take half a pill once every weekend or every other weekend, how much harm short and long-term am I doing? Before, I used to binge drink on alcohol instead. Nowadays I take a few drinks, and normally take a half as well. I personally feel much worse the next day when I binge drink on alcohol rather than taking a half or even a whole. Also, which is worse - a binge-drinking session or half a pill?

I personally feel the alcohol is worse, but we've been bombarded by society that drugs are very bad and I don't know where I can find proper educational information to educate myself on which is actually worse. Again, I know abstaining is the best idea but I like the buzz alcohol / E can give you and would prefer keeping on doing it in a more responsible way, and try to minimise as much the harm done to myself.

Recently I've been reading as well on 5-htp, and that it can reduce the long-term harm effects of E. I'm still not sure about it, but thought about giving it a try. I also take Multivitamins daily, which include magnesium in small amounts.

are there any studies done on the short-term / long-term risks, relative to the dosage taken? Any opinions on 5htp or actual experience with it and whether it is suggested to be taken before OR after, or both before and after?

There have been studies but most studies regarding MDMA damage are dodgy as hell.
Just from pure anecdotal evidence presented in this forum it shows that abuse can lead to long term comedowns, depression, anxiety, although virtually all cases resolve themselves in time.
There are always inherent risks with drug use but I can say that at half a pill from a tested source (if you don't is recommend you start testing) should hardly be harmful.
However never forget to listen to your body and your brain.
If you're feeling tired or out of it or not the same then it's definitely time for a good break

The types of damage wrought by entactogens vs. ethanol are too qualitatively different for a comparison to be meaningful. However, at that low a dose of MDMA, risks are partially ameliorated, as one shouldn't expect abject depletion of vesicular 5ht.

This. The damage is uncomparable and completely different. Nevertheless, I really don't think low doses are harmful.

Yes I do try to be careful and keep with low doses. Also from what I read it seems that you do more damage if you 're-topup' during the night, something which I try to avoid also because it never does an effect near to the first dose in the night. During the past year and a half that I've been using, I never experienced any long-term consequences of it, except for maybe a bit of a lack of concentration the following day. However I think that more comes from the reduced sleep rather than the actual usage, but lack of sleep for longer periods comes mainly through MDMA so it could be attributed to it. I'll keep dosages to a low, and listen to what my body says and as long as I don't feel any different I think i might not be doing a lot of long-term harm hopefully.
