Has anyone seriously locked in to save money??

I'm not talking about because you have to because you don't have a job and have no choice . I mean literally gone full stingy by choice to save as much as you can when you have a good job/salary etc

For example left nice apartment and maybe started renting a room, or a tiny shitty apt, maybe caravan park, living in parents basement, van and eating beans and rice and tuna, cutting back on everything even though you have a decent job just to save for a period of time.

If so what did you do exactly? Was it torture? Was it worth it? How long did you do it, how long could you last?

Tell us your experience

Maybe not to that extreme, but ive had periods when I make lists of all spendings, rent, subscriptions, food, medications, public transport etc etc and see where I can compromise and bring down my spendings.

Usually ends up with me having a more boring/autistic lifestyle eating the same meals every day and just going to work, gym and then staring at a screen the rest of the day and not making plans with friends to save money. For foods just get quality whole foods in bulk. Talking like 10kg frozen chicken, 10kg bags of rice, tons of root vegetables, beans, legumes, soybeans, organ meats like liver, heart and kidneys are cheap and probably the most nutrient dense whole foods out there.

I end up walking everywhere to save money and to get my steps in, (Ive been able to average 15 - 20k steps a day doing this) and usually listen to a podcast or take phone calls when Im walking somewhere so that the time isnt ”wasted”.

I was renting a smaller ”house” of sorts with 4 friends while we were studying, which ended up being pretty cheap compared to an apartment. Once you get into the routine it works surprisingly well. Im not this locked in anymore but I miss it lowkey
