I had been using kratom daily for about 1 year. I ended up getting locked up for 21 days. I had terrible withdrawals the first few days as i expected.
My question however is sshould my tolerance be back to baseline? I had been taking 10-15 grams of crushed thai kratom 1-2 times daily. Could i take a normal 3-5 gram dose and expect good results?
I was also thinking of preloading on loperamide which i have done a few times in the past. The reason being i really just want a decent buzz considering how long its been.
any advice would be helpful.

Your tolerance should be way down. You might be disappointed by how quickly it returns though...

It will return quickly, but not as quickly as regular opiates. Its NMDA antagonism should keep tolerance from building as fast, and by "as fast" I mean not as fast as regular opiates.

Having wondered and experienced the same thing, I will say that my base tolerance to the plant overall did return to normal. The effects I desired, however, did not return to normal. As such I found that I needed to very quickly raise my dose to uncomfortable (Kratom pukes!) levels to reach the initial effects. My options were thus to reduce my overall high, or achieve it with a strong change of vertigo/nausea.

I had used stronger opiates (heroin and oxycodone) habitually before this, so this may have affected this as well. Overall I found it similar to other opiates in that my tolerance to respiratory effects and CNS depression dropped far closer to baseline than my tolerance to euphoria. The first time I used oxy after a long break I was surprised to to find myself nodding before I was able to reach that initial euphoric place. Substitute kratoms side effects for this and its very similar. I would say that my Kratom tolerance rose much slower in habitual use than with other opiates. I also found that my level of activity strongly influenced the experience. Walking around I would think it was over. Then I laid down.... BAM. Keeping still, the euphoria would come in waves that would progressively get stronger. Also similar to opiates, but far more pronounced in my experience.
