Living Room
Two geckoes reside in the corner
By my desk and its tangle of cables,
In the spaces left unoccupied
By we humans.
At night they emerge to
Chirrup boldly in the light
Whilst they scuttle to and fro
‘Tween floor and ceiling.
They tussle and dart, and rustle the blinds
As they bicker over the prime
Real estate of the window,
With its promise of moths.
Such stark contrast to the silent
Slinking of the skink over carpet
On early mornings and quiet evenings,
Convinced it goes unseen.
Its presence evidenced more
(Than by salubrious sightings)
By the remnants of digestion
I find behind the couch.
