Beyond the Grave
Artichoke diagonal reprising the scorn
For parliament trespass and quietly born
Kitten replacements all violent and torn
The surly belittled scrambling sods
All fluttering endlessly out of their pods
And entering houses, burrows and ponds
Directed by fairies white magic wands

There deep in the gully, enthralled with a moth
Lay little Mouse Squeedle and his friend; Mr. Sloth
While daytime did beckon with chores of the day
They simply adored to run and to play

But while they did frolic, danger a brewed
For deep in the goo was Frederick the Rude
Waiting and plotting to combat this curse
Of having to work while others are nursed
Though time did force him to stay on the job
The forest would fall without this old slob
And though cleaning slime that you’d rathen’t see
May seem dubious or tiresome to you, or to me
It keeps the wheels rolling and the salt in the sea

So while little Squeedle and sweet Mr. Sloth
Happily play ping-pong with Mr. Moth
I wonder,
Are they privileged, or are they just free?
And who would you rather be?

A selfless servant;
or selfish and free?

When i slowed down and read it, this one was a gem. With great verbal illustrations in short sentence form. the first stanza was a bit hard for me to read because of the tempo of it, but that perhaps is my own adhd. I would love to see this poem illustrated as a childrens book. thanks for sharing dude.

Yeah, I was just thinking that this would look great illustrated. It evokes the right feeling for those things that touch us all.
