Well, I'm a 20 year old college student who decided it's time to stop drinking. I have too many stories, and don't need anymore. While studying abroad I woke up on a beach in Barcelona 2 miles away from the club I was at with my pants off and no wallet or phone, while working for a Congressman I went out clubbing one weeknight and woke up on a bench in DC around 9am then had to go into work late, recently I got arrested for public intoxication at my university then proceeded to kick out the back window of a cop car and got taken to jail. I've been two weeks sober, and it's hard finding stuff to do when all I'm used to is partying. What are some things that you guys have discovered in life after quitting alcohol/drugs?

Try to find a hobby, especially one that you could do at times when you would normally be drinking.

Personally... painting, music (writing/playing/listening), photography, drawing... or just any creative project that comes to mind. I also got into boxing/muay thai at a local gym. Whatever your interested in. When you first start you might think that it's a bit stupid or you wish you were drinking instead, work through it, just keep doing what your doing, don't get sucked into that thought pattern, eventually you'll see the light.

Maybe it would be a good idea to get into some kind of counseling to figure out why the partying was to the exclusion of everything else; because it seems that if you try to force yourself into doing new things that you may or may not like, it would be good to be standing on some more solid ground inside yourself. You are already dealing with a lot of serious stuff (quitting drinking, sexual assault, and legal consequences)! That is a lot to go through and I hope you have some good support.Good luck and keep us posted.<3

Find someone or something you love. Both have what alcohol was giving you, and you need to find a healthier way to give that need to your brain.
