deep down
I got prescribed 6 bromazepan Asia after a very stressful work incident. Never really done Bromazepan just occasional zoplicone. I took one it hit the spot and allowed me to quickly rationalise my worries and realise it was pointless to worry about anything that had happened and just get on with shit. Next day took another then laid off for 2 months. Then took another the night before a potentially difficult work meeting when I was feeling stressed. it gave me a day off allowing me to be very rational with my fears and worries and i dealt with the situation much better. I'm in a really shit job working for people who are border if not actual sociopaths. I ve always been a very empathetic person so this makes things worse when I see others planning and acting only to make themselves richer or more successful at the cost of others. I took another a month later, same reasoning. Three weeks later took a half. Now left with 1.5. So 4.5 over 5 months. This drug seems to work for me in specific situations where weed or alcohol simply dull my mind but don't allow me to turn off. I can't leave my job due to contract. If I did it would mean no job or at least not one where I can look after the dependents around me for at least a year, major life change for others which I don't see as an option.

What are the chances of a UK doctor giving me more based on the above? Am I wrong to use ? What is the potential danger of taking a pill every month or so? I certainly notice the effect on current level but will this alter and will I build tolerance at this level? Any advice appreciated.

Maybe just learn to "sort your shit out" rather than relying on a drug to do it for you. Because in the long run it won't be long before you're rationalising it to yourself that xyz is going to be a problem if you don't take this "wonder drug"..

It's a slippy slope, and one best avoided. Instead learn how to cope with stress a little easier and save your sanity while you still have it.

UK doctors will not prescribe benzodiazepines for long term use, I'm not sure that bromazepam is even used in the UK, I know it is in continental europe though.

There are some exceptions. Up until a month or so ago I was on a low dose diazepam prescription for several years as part of a pain control reigeim. I admit that this is rare though (not least due to the fact that it would no longer be effective after that length of time).

I agree with Ceres though that the chance of a gp prescribing you a bottle full of bromazepam for the reasons you describe i.e. to help you deal with the general stresses of life on a once every now and then basis is virtually nill. There are some drugs what they may prescribe for anxiety disorders in general but benzos aren't among them. It's possible that a psychiatrist may look on the Situation slightly more favourably but anything he recommend would have to be continued by your gp so your back to square one unfortunately. GPs just look at benzos very differently to the way they did even a few years ago unfortunately. The risks of benzo dependency is viewed MUCH more seriously than it used to be.......

Betablockers like propranolol may be one thing the UK GP might give you.

Yeah, also maybe citalopram. Less likely pregabalin as it's used off label for treatment of GAD by some more forward looking GPs but not benzos. On top of everything else they aren't really effective long term and the chances of only actually taking them once every few months when you are really suffering from some anxiety causing problems is rare. As use increases, tolerance and dependence go exponentially up while effectiveness goes down. While they might appear a panacea in the short term, in the long run by they just aren't.....unfortunately for those seeking them GPs are well aware of this nowadays.

I asked for a valium script a couple of years ago (private) and get 21 10mg a month so I get a week off...but I only binge on them anyway, so although most nhs docs wont prescribe them longterm I believe this is for best practice rather than a ruling from the bma - obv cos of addiction problems

Thanks all I decided to bosh the remainder last night have and wave the idea goodbye. Been reading and seems meditation maybe my better route. Alas I will always have high stress even if I leave the current job and with the kind words I certainly don't want to rely on drugs. Just needed someone to tell me the reality I guess.

Thanks love you all
