CENTRAL NJ.....HEY!
Anyone else perscribed it???? I have been on 10mg for YEARS! Sex has been less energetic and drinking stories are...well...(yeah they explain you shouldnt drink on it.) I am Jon btw....central NJ........reply! %)

what's up,Jon.good morning.i just made the decision to wave the psych meds goodbye.
Lexapro isn't any better or worse than the others.they have side effects that fucking sucks.

i've taken all the psych meds they put out since 2000.lol.that's what it feels like.

IME they were beneficial in a period when the depression was so bad i peed next to the bed on the floor
cuz the bathroom was too far away.i did get up to take shits.lol.
it does get better, not a lot very fast or anything like that but time heals or gives u the necessary
distance to deal with shit.the SSRIS's like lexapro sucks,agreed.10 mg….yeah,i can see how that
would make u feel miserable.

being an alcoholic and then being prescribed SSRI's,they almost never connect the two.
the psych meds don't work if u drink everyday.
if your doc doesn't know u might as well just not take the lexapro.or be honest with your doctor.
but even being honest has become more and more of a bitch lately.

if you live in jersey it's probably cold and miserable weather too.these things, like exposure to sun, plays a part
in your moods.they have light therapy and whatnot, but it's probably expensive and not even worth it.
but it might help.what the fuck do i know?

what i do instead of taking shit id rather flush is to listen to music a lot.
if that's not u'r thing, trash TV passes time.
it's so much bad TV that it can get u going.

so that was the reply u implied u might want to read.
if nothing of what i said agrees w you at least some time went by and u got entertained.
another good show,actually my all time fav,is Dexter.season 2 and 7.

great reply man! I do get sun....drink energy drinks etc....................Sidenote: I was Rx'd this because I was always "shaking"....small tremors.....so there ya go. Ive had MRIs, etc ....no one could find anything "bad"

It's weird that you are always shaking and they didn't find a cause. My mom had that several years ago and they just passed it off to age after they ruled out Parkinsons but after we kept going to doctors they finally figured out she had a brain virus (it was causing more than tremors though). If you still have the shaking I would keep going to different doctors until you find one willing to actually think! I think it sounds crazy to put you on Lexapro for that--did they explain?

I was prescribed it for a while. I'm aware that it helps some people, but all it did for me was make it impossible to orgasm 0.0 I ended up getting switched to Zoloft, which wasn't just useless, it was actively bad - it gave me horrible dreams and worsened my impulsivity. After that, I was like - "yeah, thanks but no thanks to the SSRI's".

But why in the world would they put you on an anti-depressant for tremors? Is that an off-label use or something?

All reuptake inhibitors can crap out on you. I have never been on a SSRI before like Lexapro/Cipralex but i have been on effexor (poison for me), amitriptyline, mirtazapine (Remeron), bupropion (Wellbutrin/Zyban) and trimipramine. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic which along with being a potent anti-cholinergic is also a SNRI totally crapped out on me after about 2 years of being on it. I was on it for neuropathic pain, depression and later bipolar depression as well as insomnia. I ended up on the highest recommended outpatient dose which is 150mg's a night and it stopped working altogether for the depression and neuropathic pain. I had to switch to gabapentin which i never found to work as good as the amitriptyline.

All psych meds can stop working over time and you may need to adjust the dose or switch medications.

Amitriptyline is just a tricyclic - SNRI is a totally different class of medication (Effexor is an SNRI). I was unaware they even prescribed tricyclics very often anymore. They're kind of antiquated as far as antidepressants go, and the side effects tend to be worse than other types. Do you know why your doctor decided to put you on that?

Yes, Amitriptyline is a TCA, and most TCA's inhibit the re-uptake of SERT and NE, hence being SNRI's.
There are only 5 that aren't SNRIs, 1 which is a 5HT2 antagonist, 1 which does that plus NRI, a DNRI, and the last two are quite unique (SSRE, and a Sigma agonist that also has affinity for 5HT2)
There are plenty of indications for T(e)CA's.

Hi njxxxxxjon,

I've been taking ADs for about 4 years now and have been through a good few of them including several SSRIs which i seem unable to tolerate, 2 years on Venlafaxine (Effexor) and more recently Amiltriptyline.

I do think they can serve a purpose with some people at certain times, they helped me get back on my feet after a horrible episode, I'm not sure I would have pulled out of the nose dive without them.

I don't think they represent long term answers to mental health issues, by that I'm not ruling out taking them long term but in themselves they can't 'fix' our problems. I came off Venlafaxine as the side effects became intolerable and I felt somewhat trapped in an emotional vacuum, I'm not fully free of ADs yet but I'm on my way.

Like Herbavore, I'm intrigued by the shaking thing, if those physical symptoms were the only reason they put you on an SSRI I'd be asking questions about the underlying reasons / diagnosis and simply if you arent happy with your medication discuss it with your doctor, it is you that is taking the stuff, they often seem to forget that point and talk as if there is a 3rd party involved.

Ah, that's interesting, I didn't realize TCAs work that way. I was just curious because I've had several psychiatrists mention TCAs in passing, as each one has said that they avoid prescribing them unless other antidepressants aren't working. Not because they aren't effective for depression, but because they aren't tolerated as well. That said, I don't know terribly much about the other uses for those drugs.
