hi everyone..

my current psychiatrist gives me levopromatine for my anxiety and I have no idea what this is..

any info on this stuff is welcome. I googled it and it showed one result with an article in a font so small I can't read it so I'm clueless :/

Are you maybe thinking of ProMatine? What is your dosage, how often do you take it, and are its effects physical, mental, or both?

Levopromatine would be the levo-form of Promatine (pretty much the same as Promatine just one specific chemical configuration)

Why in the world would he prescribe this of all things for Anxiety? I mean an a2 agonist like clonidine (if it really is just that) maybe, but why something that just pumps up your blood pressure, and probably feels pretty crappy as well?

It's levopromatine but it's not much of a difference I guess.. I get 12,5mg at 12:00 and 25mg at 20:00 and it's effect is being a bit sluggish but I also take xanax 0,5mg 4 times a day but that doesn't sedate me.

All I find on google is stuff about proamatine (midodrine) which can't be it :/

Just to be clear the active component is levopromatine and I keep forgetting the brand name.

Are you maybe thinking of Levomepromazine aka methotrimeprazine? If that is it then it's a low potency (about half as potent as chlorpromazine) typical anti-psychotic that has very strong anti-cholinergic effects. The anti-cholinergic effects are what makes levomeprazine so sedating that it makes seroquel and chlorpromazine look like methamphetamine by comparison. I was prescribed it for sleep and 10mg's was enough to put me out for the night and 15 or 20mg's would put me out for most of the next day. By comparison i can take 100mg's of good old Thorazine and not be anywhere near as drowsy as only 15mg's of levomepromazine. Levomepromazine is sometimes prescribed for anxiety and that actually seems to be what it's being prescribed for alot in Canada as the therapeutic anti-psychotic dose produces way too much sedation.

That is if that is the medication you have as there is no way for us to tell without more info from you.

She gives you the Xanax for anxiety... That would've definitely been a detail to mention.

Yes, he gives me the xanax for anxiety.. Not for withdrawl or anything..

And yes, the brand name is nozinan so it must be levomepromazine. That doc can't even spell his meds right :/

This stuff doesn't really sedate me but it makes me so emotionally blank and makes me lose interest in things to much..
I'm going to stop taking them as I don't think they help my anxiety at all..

Sounds like the dose your on is exibiting anti-psych effects for you.
Considering your issue is anxiety, i would think dopamine antagonism to the degree of flattening your emotions and killing your interest in enjoyable activities, is a little heavy handed i think.
However you shouldnt just stop psych meds without consulting your doctor as they may have to be withdrawan slowly.
