Let's talk about eggs

im eggstremely eggstatic about this thread

Eggcellent =D

On a serious note, after speaking to a specialist recently, one of the things i'm looking at is hormone regulation, which means that I have to make some pretty decent changes to my diet (this includes cutting out the vast majority of sugar for the foreseeable future *fruit included* and drastically dropping a majority of carbohydrates *except potato and very thin mountain bread*). I'm pretty much having an egg scramble every morning for breakfast and including various veges - asparagus, zucchini, broccolini, mushroom, tomato, and adding a heap of garlic, paprika and other herbs. I'm finding that i'm staying full until lunch and since changing my diet, my stomach isn't bloated, my reflux has all but gone and my skin is better.

I love eggs (and am so excited to get some chooks) :D

i like cooking eggs, they can be a challenge if anything, erm eggspecially eggies-benedict...

i usually use Thyme and Pepper, or Paprika, and that'll be it, but now i cant imagine not having them with almost eggsesive 'clarified butter', and Tea Masala, o mmyyY its like Aunt Jamima's envy roasting in your kitchen...as if there are eggs bacon fire-wood and maple syurp going all at the same time.

for me anyhow. my life, my waking hours will never be the same.

here is part of a wiki excerpt about Masala Tea:
"The traditional masala chai is a spiced beverage brewed with different proportions of so-called "warm" spices. The spice mixture, called Karha, uses a base of ground ginger and green cardamom pods. Most masala chai found in restaurants or homes incorporates one or more of the following: cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, fennel seeds, peppercorn, and cloves" nutmeg is common as-well.

i love making an egg sandwich with some black pepper and rosemary sprinkled on top..... i think eggs and rosemary go together soooo well

Eggs, Eggs and more Eggs...

Ok so here is the questions. Im trying to get back on a stable work out and I dont like supplements and such. And I love eggs and have used em in the past while working out.
I know that eggs them selfs have all the amino acids we need and I think it was somewhere around 5-7 grams of protien in em. Heres the first question. Is there any plus side to eating them raw over a cooked egg? I hate raw eggs.
Also Im currious about egg whites in the carton. Same question as above, cooked or raw and how big of a difference does it really make. Also am I loosing any of the protien or amino acids by not eating the whole egg? There cheap and seem to provide a healthy meal after my morning work outs Im just trying to maximize it. Ive been eating two whole eggs and a 8 oz. pouch of tuna every morning.

sounds like a fast-track to kidney problems. I don't know why people revere like eggs are the best food in the known universe. It's harder to digest than a chicken breast and might contain a negligible amount more amino acids but way more fat. Then again, milk is hugely propagandized too. I guess the government needs to do that to keep our subsidized farmers in business.

Thats why I started this thread was for some input on it. But how is it a fast track to kidney problems? Im not understanding that, Ive had renal failure before and was on dialysis for and extended time and my kidney specialist has never mentioned this to me when discussing my diet.

Read: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/high-protein-diets/AN00847

8 oz of tuna for breakfast alone qualifies as a high-protein diet. That's somewhere around 50G of protein in one go, add to the eggs that's just going way overboard.

I realize the Mayo clinic article is a bit vague but it's the most trustworthy public source for medical info on the net so that's why I linked it

Good read, thanks for the info. But does this also go for after work outs? I may be wrong, but the reason for eating high protein items right after you work out is to help replace what was burned and feed the muscle. So I wouldnt think that going a little over board might be ok. But again I may be wrong as Ive never gotten indepth with the whole working out thing. It was always just a pass time and nothing serious. This is the first time im taking it serious, so maybe I need to do some more reading on how to get a good cheap diet down. Thanks again for the link and the info.

^ That's just a load of bologna, in my opinion. There is no reason for such (again, in my opinion) over-consumption of that one macro nutrient. We need all nutrients in our diet. Throughout the day, it's estimated that, depending on your height and weight, you only need about 50-80g of protein.

It's a "working out thing" if you want it to be such. Otherwise, it's just a lifestyle that you have. There's no need to eat so much protein, especially all at once.

eggs and fish are solid for post-workout but eating like that at all meals would be a boatload of protein and if you're not a musclehound it probably won't be as much a benefit as detriment. i never got along with eggs so my post-workout breakfast consists of a protein shake (25g protein), almonds (protein and amino acids) and fruit. fruit is not always so cheap but whey powder has pretty good value, even if you buy the high-end stuff. you can try it out, but if you really have a preference for eggs try it with green onions! ancient farmer secret to eat raw onion with the eggs to fight the bad cholesterol.

Thanks for all the input guys. Like I said Im still new to taking this serious. The main reason for trying to get in peak shape is because of my past health problems. And now that im sober from everything besides alcohol I figure it cant hurt. Ive always worked out, push ups and dips and jogging and such. But never tried to find a good diet to stick with and really change my lifestyle to be a healthy one.

Well I don't know much about the science behind dieting but I have a recommendation you should look into. I used to work for a company where i would lift around 100000 pounds a night in boxes. I got ripped from head to toe in 6 months and had a solid 6 pack. I would eat 2 peanut butter sandwiches and those gave me such a good boost of protein energy. Maybe you should try getting a healthy cereal, some almond milk, and a few spoonfulls of peanut butter in there. Damn its so good. I could litterally eat that every day. In the past year I stopped drinking regular milk all together and switched to almond milk and I've had good results.

50-80g is what i try to aim for. I would class 80grams of protein as a high protein diet.

I read that if you when you are eating lots of high protein foods, and you take a pee if its really frothy, that means that your body is probably getting too much protein and that it is simply flushing the excess proteins and not using them, therefore you are wasting money as high protein foods are expensive.

I am pretty sure that Chicken is one of the best things out there to eat really. I Do enjoy eggs quite a bit myself though.

Yeh just watch it cuz the eggs got a lot of cholesterol. Apperantly theres 6 gs of protein in each egg. 3 in the yolk, 3 in the whites. If you hard boil them, you can eat the non cholestorel part of the egg and still get some protein.

Uh, no.

Cooked eggs are more bio-available than raw ones. A raw white contains compounds which block biotin and eventually lead to a deficiency. Don't drink egg whites. Most is contained in the white, while the cholesterol and vitamins are in the yolk. I personally find the yolk fucking disgusting. I get the whites already prepared in a carton. I use like a cup which translates to like 12-13 egg whites

God they're delicious.

The cholesterol from eggs is weakly absorbed if at all. The digestibility and amino acid profile of egg whites put them at the top of the list of healthy proteins. They should be cooked, since a lot of the protein is not absorbed raw.

Put some saran wrap in a bowl, form a saran wrap bowl.. crack egg in center.. tie up saran wrap..

Result. I believe they are called sous vide eggs. Delicious and very runny yolk.. my favorite.
