Legal Ramifications of an OD

I've googled around but I can't seem to find a definite answer to this question. I just got a call from my buddy's girlfriend saying he was on his way to the hospital after an OD on heroin. I know normally there wouldn't be any legal troubles, but the kicker in this situation is my friend is currently on drug related probation. She's worried sick that he'll get in trouble and I'd like to get the facts on something like this. Is there any way word of this hospital trip could get to his probation officer, or get him in any sort of legal trouble? Obviously legal troubles mean nothing if you're dead, but he's already on the way to the hospital so I know he'll be ok. Thanks guys.

The cops may get involved and they may not.. you'll just have to wait and see but it is not unheard of to catch a charge after an OD

I can't give a definite answer but when I OD'ed I didn't get in any trouble. My bags of dope were still sitting on my desk when I came back from the hospital.

Then again it depends on all sorts of factors.

Some states have the good samaritan law which covers this. It basically states that you will not be prosecuted for small quantites of drugs found by those responding to an OD. It was passed in some states, and the purpose was to prevent people from not calling 911 in the event of an OD in fear of being punished legally for the drugs they have on them for personal use.

Yeah I've OD'd a couple times and I never caught any charges either..

Googling "arrested after overdose" shows not everyone is so lucky though :(
