I looked it up in a few places to be sure I remembered it correctly, and I did. The revised Opium act of '76 gave discretionary powers, decriminalized some things and opened loopholes - but did not legalize anything.

Dutch drug laws also distinguish between dealers and users. The use of drugs is not an offence, but importing, selling, producing and possessing either hard or soft drugs certainly is. But even then, the Dutch judicial system may exercise its discretionary powers to decide, in the public interest, not to prosecute in a particular case. Priority in prosecution is given to dealing with offences related to hard drugs and to large scale trafficking, whilst the regulated sale of cannabis in so called coffee shops is more or less tolerated.

Thanks for the info... Yet another question... Is there any word for legalization in the US? I hear the only reason it isn't legal is because of the amount of unknown chemicals in THC... Therefore after they find out what these chemicals are they may legalize it.... Has anyone heard anything relevant to this? Thanks..

There is no place on earth where Cannabis is legalized - but the most tolerant country is definitely Holland - followed by a few provinces in other countries (parts of Spain are very liberal).

Well, for some reason I & the rest of all smokers in Spain hide when smoking up - although yeah, there's some places where they just don't care if you smoke.

You can't arrest 300 hippies at the Retiro for smoking weed. It's just not practical. ;)

This basically means you can use whatever you want as long as you don't act like a dickhead and you are very unlikely to be bothered for small-time dealing in either soft- or hard drugs. They only actively go after the big fish.
 
I got friends that went to jamaica. They really don't do anything. I know someone that had the same deal go on in the bahamas. In that little island region it is pretty much the same deal. HERB, HERB, HERB.........

Private soft drug use as well as hard drug use are generally condoned. People are not being harassed for possession of small quantities of listed substances; unless you get yourself in trouble, you won't have to worry too much about the authorities. [But you need to keep in mind this is common practice, not law.]
Trouble in this context usually means: when people complain about you. For instance, violence is a no-go, and when you are under the influence penalties will be much higher. Or if you bring large (10+) quantities of pills to a club and the bouncers don't like you; you could potentially be turned over to the police. This is not very dangerous if you have only a small amount of pills, meth or coke; but you will not get away with possession with intent to sell.

no it means this ^^, but this rule doesn't count either. only the hard drugs are th real problem, illegal selling of weed is also approved in many cities, not all, but most.
 
in belgium there is a very ambiguous situation. nobody fully understands the current law anymore and they keep on changing its details.

it's something like: it's not legal, but you will not be punished, on the condition that you do not smoke it in public places, and not with minors around. and even though you can smoke it, you cannot buy it and definitely not sell it, and you cannot carry it on you either. or something like that. and then tehre is a whole bunch of otehr details i forgot. :) nobody knows anymore. :)

but in practice, everybody smokes it, also at public places. and if you're caught, you may be registered as a cannabis user and maybe you'll have to pay a small fine, but that's it.
 
even crazier (not on topic) but in holland if you smuggle less then 3 kg of coke they let you walk really what's up whith that?
 
Well...it's good that they do this (i'm from holland)

The police have to spend time on other more urgent matters.

It is known that on some flights over 50% (not a joke) of the people are drugtrafficers, should we arrest them all so that there is no more space in prison for the real criminals.

Another thing, if drugaddicts have to steal the whole day to get drugs then why wouldn't you just give them the drugs so that they don't steal anymore. (we do this in Holland)
 
^^ I think that makes perfect sense. Worry about the murderers, not the dudes smoking up in their own house. Give the addicts drugs so they dont end up stealing or killing people for money, and then help them. Or give the drugs out for cheaper..

you got that right, man...ESPECIALLY canada.... the US has even threatend to (i'm not sure exactly) fuck up the trade system a bit (like a mini-embargo) if we were to slacken up our drug policy..

FUCK THE US! (not the people, the government)

not belgium, only holland - i mean, you can smoke it in belgium if you have a little but it's illegal to sell, or have amounts that show you may be selling.

amsterdam IS legal - you can buy it in licensed cafe's and on the streets - but you'd be stupid to!

the only thing netherlands law doesnt stretch to is THC oil
 
Well it's definatly 'legal' here in the Netherlands.

Just bought me some grams of White Widow and Super Afghan. 4 Grams - 20 bucks.

Almost every city with 100.000+ citizens have 3+ coffeeshops, not to speak about the hundreds of shops in Amsterdam.
