Leftist Discussion Thread

Yeah I know, but many people are lol (I mean in general, not here)

Many people are LOL including Mark Dice who believes in all manner of utterly preposterous nonsense. Posting a video by him- do you read or watch his site in your personal time? That explains something :D

Re: the video. I thought Ashley Judd was quite ridiculous. I can't understand the feminist point of view myself. I support equal rights in all walks of life in totality. We are all victims of this absurd system we live in, not just women. Of course, the wrongs against women have piled up for centuries and must be redressed, but I feel like such aggressive polemic does more to alienate than otherwise. Perhaps that is just me.

This issue was raised in Australia too. We have a GST on many products including tampons. I agree that this tax is unfair. Women have no choice but to use such products; people should never be penalised for an inherent and immutable fact of their existence. I don't think there should be a tax on such items, not because certain male products are not taxed, but because taxing feminine hygiene products is counter to ideas of equality. The left in Australia do not support the tax; the right has made conciliatory sounds without much moment, as expected. And its been forgotten by the media so is no longer really mentioned. I'm sure it will be regurgitated soon enough.

Yeah my dad voted for Trump and he's pissed that the gays still get married :p

No I hadn't heard that, and apparently most of his voters didn't hear it either.
It's true even obama was against gay marriage in 09! Trump is the first president ever to embrace it. There is a famous photo of him proudly holding the rainbow flag that says lgbtq in it. That being said, you would be kidding yourself if you thought Mike pence wasn't anything but against it.

Trump is the first president ever to embrace it.
that is incorrect.

while it's true that obama has actually changed his position a couple of times on the issue, in may 2012 he publicly announced his support for same sex marriage (source).

as such, trump is the second president to support gay marriage. indeed, he's changed his position on the issue too. in a fox interview on january 31st 2016, he was asked if he might try to appoint justices to overrule the decision on same-sex marriage. his response: "I would strongly consider that, yes." (source).

he wasn't president on the campaign trail. so are you arguing he was the first presidential candidate to support same sex marriage? that is also incorrect.

obama embraced it in the white house. you know, where the president lives :)

jesus h. droppers - it's like you don't even read.

i explicitly said "while it's true that obama has actually changed his position a couple of times on the issue" - why are you just choosing to ignore that?

this is like the news we heard leaking from the post-inauguration concerning trump's tantrum about the crowd size. these are simple, verifiable facts so i have no idea why you are childishly trying to rewrite history when it's so easily confirmed.

i think it's great that trump is for same sex marriage. let's hope he sticks to it.

your claim was a simple one: "Trump is the first president ever to embrace it". i have demonstrated, with sources, that your claim is simply incorrect.

how has this thread descended into arguments between liberals and nazis, neither of whom are leftists?

Obama and Hillary were for traditional marriage as of 08-09. Stop being partisan Alasdair :\

As of 2009 yes, but in 2012 he declared his support for all marriage. However you should also note that he was in support of all marriage before then, in from 1996-2009. No idea why yet, but Obama went from a centrist liberal centrist senator to a right wing conservative authoritarian president. His change to no longer supporting all marriage (though still supporting equal rights otherwise) was included in that universal swap of his positions upon becoming president.

Linda Sarsour should send Ashley Judd on a 13 country tour through Egypt, Mauritania, Sudan Afghanistan, Iraq, the Maldives, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria and the UAE.

I'd love to see their reception to her "performance".
