OK here's some lightweight pap to fill the gap. Not quite as good as the man who cemented his head inside a microwave, but about the same as the gold/blue dress debate.

Do you hear Laurel or Yanny?

'Laurel' or 'Yanny'? People can't decide

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a "laurel". Or a "yanny". No one can decide.

A widely shared audio clip has divided the internet into two warring tribes - those who hear "yanny" and those who hear "laurel".

The rival factions, the Yannies and the Laurels let's say, have been locked in a bitter battle for aural supremacy since at least Monday, when Reddit user RolandCamry - the anonymous harbinger of internet meltdown - posted the clip online.

After the video migrated to Twitter, the armies' numbers swelled. In the last 24 hours, "yanny" has been mentioned more than 310,000 times. The Laurels are currently edging it with closer to 330,000 uses of the word.

I'm trying to find the link to the actual video but I can't seem to... and, as I am too lazy to put any more time into it, I would ask if you could kindly paste the direct link to it? Would help others too I'm sure. :)

^ It's embedded in the post mate :)

Tubbs: Really!? Wow. I tried so hard to imagine 'yanny' but couldn't think how it could even vaguely sound like that.

It's right after the 3rd paragraph xork.

I imagine it's kind of like a hearing test, both are audible, it just depends on the individuals hearing range. I hear "yanny" in a high pitched tone, I imagine laurel is in a low tone for you?

Yeah reasonably deep/male. I spent a while trying to make it sound like 'yanny' in my head but still can't do it lol. If anything it sounds like "Laaarl" to me.

Wow. I really wish I could hear the way you guys hear. It seems to be about 50:50 the way the world is hearing this. It must have a biological/genetic origin, like the dress debate.

While still obviously male, it's in a higher tone for yanny, it's all about frequency.

You can, scroll further down the article, someone isolated both the high and low frequencies.

I've got an app called audio hijack that can adjust the audio. Let's see if I can yannify this! ;)

This must mean I'm going deaf in my old age and can't hear high frequencies anymore! :(

I polled my family and they all heard Laurel. I suspect we all have hearing loss lol :D

Poll added above ;)

^ yes do! The ability to hear one or the other clearly means something massively important and major and life-changing in every way ;)
